Andy Says: 3 Reasons You'll Love Sarah Michelle Gellar On The CW's 'Ringer' This Fall!

Action! Drama! All-around sexiness! Is there anything SMG can’t do? … I didn’t think so.

Yes, my fellow Scooby Gangsters, the rumors are true: Sarah Michelle Gellar is coming back to TV this fall for some much-needed, and long-awaited, ass kicking. But because vampire slaying is so late-90s, Sarah’s got a new enemy on her upcoming CW drama Ringer: the freakin’ mafia! Sarah plays Bridget, a drug addict on the run who assumes the identity of her presumed-dead twin sister Siobhan. But she quickly discovers that Siobhan’s life might be just as dangerous as her own. So basically, SMG is screwed.

I got an early look at Ringer during The CW Upfront presentation May 19 in New York, and I’ve compiled my list of three reasons you need to check it out when it premieres in the fall:

  1. Um… it’s Sarah Michelle Gellar: Few TV actresses have been as missed and pined for as SMG, so her return to television after an eight-year absence (not counting voice work) is nothing short of an answered prayer.
  2. It’s dark & twisted: While most shows on The CW are so cute you just want to take them to bed with you, Ringer actually looks pretty disturbing — and I mean that in the best possible way. Part Damages, part Nikita, it doesn’t look like it’ll be short on substance.
  3. Doppelgangers are awesome: If there’s one thing I’ve learned from The Vampire Diaries, it’s that great actresses playing opposite themselves makes for awesome television.

Our sister site, TVLine, chatted with SMG on the green carpet at The CW Upfront to get the scoop on why she decided to return to TV now. And boy did they get it:

“We’re a show of all young parents, and we’ve made it so that the babies feel just as welcome as we do,” she told TVLine about Ringer‘s kid-friendly set. “As a mom, I decided it was something that was going to afford me the chance [to act and take care of my daughter, Charlotte.]” Click here to read their interview in full.
