Monique Lhuillier Spring 2013 — Great For Nina Dobrev

The designer crafted an exquisite collection, and it felt like the world under-the-sea was coming alive right in front of us. Get your first look at her Spring 2013 designs right here.

A personal highlight while attending Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is always getting to see the glamorous, red carpet dresses up close before they wind up on some of my favorite stars — and for that reason I’m always excited to see what Monique Lhuillier will send down the runway. Her Spring 2013 collection didn’t disappoint, and skin was definitely in! Her feminine mermaid gowns exuded a sexy yet enchanting vibe.

From peplums to detailed embellishments and soft prints, the cocktail dresses and separates were just as chic — and they make perfect options for all of the functions stars find themselves attending, like photocalls. Last season Monique incorporated leather into her collection in such a soft and feminine way, and I thought those ensembles were some of her stronger looks from Fall 2012. For that reason, I was happy to see her working with leather again for spring — especially in light, airy hues.

While I think the majority of the collection will be a red carpet hit on a slew of stars, I definitely think Nina Dobrev would look stunning in a slew of looks — she brings such a youthful vibe to prints when she wears them. When it comes to standing out in a unique way, I thought the embellished dresses struck the perfect balance — and for that reason I think the stylish yet quirky Zooey Deschanel would look adorable in the dresses.
