Find out who sold out on newsstands — and who totally tanked! Check out the 12 winners and losers of 2011 right here.
From reality stars to major a-listers and crooning cuties, 2011 marked an interesting year on the newsstands. There were the consistent best-sellers, (like Jennifer Aniston), and major let-downs (like Justin Bieber). According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, WWD announced the best and worst of the year — and we have all the info you need to know right here! Click through to see where your fave star wound up,
Mila Kunis‘ Friends With Benefits co-star Justin Timberlake may have sold when posing alongside his sexy co-star, but on his own he failed to deliver! Justin’s solo Esquire cover was the worst of the year, while his appearance on W with Amanda Seyfried also failed to deliver — it was the second worst performer of the year for the title!
It turns out Reese Witherspoon isn’t the only blonde that doesn’t sell on the newsstands. Unfortunately, Michelle Williams was just as unpopular delivering Vogue it’s second-worst performance for the year and third-worst at Marie Claire.
When it comes to the athletic set, Mark Sanchez surely delivered on the September issue of GQ, selling more copies than Derek Jeter‘s cover back in April.
Considering what a strong seller Sarah Jessica Parker is on the newsstands, it comes as no surprise that she keeps landing covers! In 2011, her Vogue, Marie Claire and Elle covers all came in as the second of third-best sellers of the year for each title.
Mila Kunis was definitely the new face on the newsstand in 2011 — and she was a major hit! Her GQ cover brought in the biggest sales of the year, while her appearances on W, Cosmopolitan and Elle all did well above average, with her Elle cover rounding out the fourth best of the year for the mag.
There’s one place Jennifer Aniston always seems to be consistent — and that’s on the newsstands! The popular star was Marie Claire‘s top seller of the year. She followed up her July cover with one of the best performers of the year for Elle in November.
Fergie may light up the stage, but unfortunately her mag covers didn’t find the same success. Her Allure cover was the worst seller, while her Lucky cover was the fourth-worst of the year for the title.
Aside from looking glam, Reese Witherspoon is also consistent when it comes to striking out on the newsstand. Unfortunately the star brought in below-average sales for Vogue, Marie Claire and Glamour.
Lady Gaga wasn’t the most consistent on covers — but what we learned is that Gaga sells when she’s all glam! Her Vogue cover was the second-best seller of the year, while her May Harper’s Bazaar appearance came in at third-best for the title. However, when Gaga gets natural her fans could care less! Her October Bazaar cover, a close-up of the star sans makeup, was the third-worst of the year.
Brooklyn Decker may have a seriously sexy body, but it doesn’t have us running to the newsstands, unless it’s the cover of Sports Illustrated. Her Esquire cover was the second-worst of the year, while her Self cover also tanked. –
Justin Bieber is one of the top performers on HollywoodLife.com, but it looks like his fans don’t feel the need to rush to the newsstands — and with all the up-to-the-minute coverage you can get online, I can’t say I blame them! The Biebs looked great on the February cover Vanity Fair but the mag tanked, marking the third worst-seller since 1992. He then appeared on Rolling Stone where his sales also fell below average. While this news seems surprising with all the Bieber fever, it isn’t a new phenomenon. Just last year he failed to deliver on both Teen Vogue and People — but he keeps breaking records online! Aside from having great taste, it looks like all the Beliebers out there are also savvy when it comes to the web.
Kim Kardashian was everywhere this year — and there’s a reason! The reality star landed more covers than anyone, and she certainly delivered. She brought in bestselling numbers of the year for both Glamour and Cosmopolitan. However, when Kim graced the covers of Harper’s Bazaar, Self and Lucky her numbers were only mild. Could we be heading towards a Kardashian decline? According to reports, her January Glamour 2012 cover with her sisters is on track for a poor performance!
