Katie Holmes, Eva Mendes, Jen Garner, Anne Hathaway & More Lovely Ladies At ‘Variety’s’ Power Of Women Luncheon!

Check out the fine frocks and vote for who looked best out of all the ladies who lunch!

While we’re used to seeing this star-studded set get glammed up at night on the red carpet, when it comes to a daytime affair the dress code is definitely more conservative — and Variety‘s 2nd annual Power of Women Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sept. 30 is the perfect example! Rather than gowns and sexy minis, there were longer hemlines and more conservative necklines on the carpet. Katie Holmes, however, was a walking disaster in my opinion! She looked like she stuffed herself into one of little Suri’s dresses — while the floral Louis Vuitton fall 2010 dress wasn’t particularly terrible on the runway, Katie must’ve had the get-up shortened with a needle and thread mere hours before storming the carpet because on the left-hand side the stitch is already coming undone! To make matters worse, she’s wearing tights– if it was February I would understand, but there’s no reason for them here.

In contrast to Katie’s disaster, there was the gorgeous Eva Mendes who looked striking in a striped Salvatore Ferragamo resort 2011 halter dress and a nude pair of Sergio Rossi pumps. While I know many people are so over nude heels, they go so well with so many different looks — she was definitely one of my favorites from the luncheon!

Anne Hathaway rarely disappoints on the red carpet and yesterday was no exception when she stepped out in a pretty printed Erdem resort 2011 sleeveless dress and navy patent Brian Atwood pumps. Sure, we all love to see her in a gorgeous gown but I love the classic elegance of this get-up and think it was perfect for the a-lister.

Also in attendance was AnnaLynne McCord — and while she may often be in minis, she toned down her look in a pantsuit and burgundy pumps while new mom Amy Adams seems to have shed all her baby weight and showed it off in a pink structured one-shoulder Roland Mouret cocktail dress. The usual dressed down mommy Jennifer Garner left the kids at home and traded her jeans and sneakers for a conservative belted dress.

Check out who else turned up and vote for who you think was best dressed last night!

katrina. i don’t even know what to say. these ladies mustn’t do lunch often, cuz they all looked atrocious (relatively speaking. i suppose that’s a little dramatic.). i am speechless at how bad they all looked. eva mendes looked okay, and anne hathaway looked okay- but in general, they were all so ‘ho hum’ (except for the nightmare that was katie holmes. and why was she POSING like that? what happened? did she think confidence would fool us from noticing how bad she looked. wow. also, i’m no prude, but i still think all of these ladies posing with their legs apart trash down their entire outfit when they do that.) okay, going back to see if anyone worked for me- i almost have to compliment katie for at least trying to do something interesting. jennifer garner might as well have just stuck to her khakis and sneakers. yawn. amy adams probably looked cute in person- i like her in pink- but it’s not translating well on film. yawn. brooke, yawn. the other white dress, yawn. annalynne… well, if i didn’t always want to slap that look off her face, i probably would’ve thought her outfit was okay- though wearing a black pant suit to a women’s power luncheon is a little too literal for my tastes. this is just a horrible showing. maybe we really are still in the middle of a depression b/c there is no life in those shots- other than katie’s trainwreck. i like the pattern and that she looks like she’s having fun, but the length and the tights don’t work on her, especially. her legs are NOT her best feature.

HAHA I agree about AnnaLynne, the suit it a bit too literal for my taste and aside from Eva and Anne it was quite the snooze fest. As for Katie, I completely agree about her legs, which is why I don’t understand why she had the dress shortened!

a friend of mine said the term for an f’ed up hemline is “wonky” which is a ridiculous but funny word to me. was her hemline SUPPOSED to be wonky? b/c it’s uneven on both sides, not just one? also, i feel like they do this mini-with-tights thing with her a lot (remember the denim shorts and tights?) and i’m wondering if they know more than we do— meaning, maybe b/c her legs are pretty shapeless and thick, a mini is preferable to highlighting a shapeless cankle with a longer skirt? i don’t know- but to think that it could’ve looked even worse longer, is scary. i do really like the pattern though… if you block out the very bottom of the dress (the “wonky” hemline) and her legs, and just look at her, she looks very very cute and has a beautiful smile and glimmer in her eyes. i feel bad busting on her, b/c in her profession, those legs really are a curse and i have got to imagine she has some esteem issues because of them. i’m sure she doesn’t read this, otherwise i’d feel horrible writing it. she seems like such a nice girl… but, dress length— issues. maybe she just needs to stick with pants and gowns?
