'Hunger Games' Casting: Who Will Play Cato & Thresh? Michael Trevino & Michael B. Jordan Top Our List!

Posted Thu, March 31, 2011 7:17pm EST

They’re big, they’re bad and they’re… in need of casting! Who do YOU think should play Cato & Thresh?

Earlier this week, we gave our picks for Prim and Rue — the most adorable characters in The Hunger Games – and now it’s time to choose the most deadly! Cato and Thresh are thought of as the two strongest competitors in the deadly game, so they need to be a pair of serious mean muggers.

HollywoodLife.com‘s Entertainment Editor Andy Swift wants to see The Vampire DiariesMichael Trevino make his leap to the big screen as Cato, while Associate Editor Chris Spargo thinks the huge break should go to Glee‘s Max Adler. (which may not be too far off, since Max’s name is making its way around the web via a Twitter campaign.)

As for Thresh, Andy and Chris are gunning for HellcatsRobbie Jones and The Wire‘s Michael B. Jordan, respectively.

But which actors do YOU want to see battle it out on the big screen? Browse our gallery and vote below. (Feel free to contribute any of your own names. It’s still anyone’s game!)

Riker Lynch also read for Cato. Not the canon description but I can dig it.

Personally, I’m not excited about the Hunger Games movie at all…only read the first book so far, but loved it…I don’t particularly like any of the main actors, but if Lee Thompson Young, Kellan Lutz, or Max Adler were to play parts in the movie, I would probably go see it.

Tristan Wilds should have this role locked & sealed. All you have to do is look up Michael Lee and it should end there. 20 yr. old underrated chops.

Robbie Jones is a good actor, but he is WAY to old to play Thresh. He’s in his LATE 20′s.

Some people think thresh is smaller than Cato but way more brutal and strong.

Thresh needs to be bigger, all of people for him look too scrawny, I’m thinking someone like Quinton Aaron from The Blind Side, of course he’s much too old for the part, I’m just thinking someone like him, considering breaks a mans head, he’d needs to be a bug guy

How tall is Max Adler? He’s big and burly but is he tall? Cato is supposed to be a tall, powerful (scary) young man who easily overpowers Peeta. All tributes (except Thresh) fear him. My top pick is LIAM HEMSWORTH who is 6’5″, well built and can look menacing. He’s up for Gale but I think is a better fit for Cato. 2nd pick is Kellan Lutz, at 6’1, strong and very muscular.

For Thresh, my pick is Robbie Jones. At 6’3, he has the right height, built and look for Thresh, and is the tallest of the actor options here.

Anyone who has read the books will know that Cato and Thresh have to be fairly evenly matched in terms of strength, height and size so it makes sense for Lionsgate to hold auditions together for these characters so that they get the right match.

I feel like Max is pretty tall … or maybe it’s just because they always put him next to Chris Colfer on Glee.

And YES! Robbie Jones is my pick for Thresh. Great minds, my friend.

Max is 6’1 and his acting is very powerful, intense, perfect for Cato to fill the nuances in his character…
