First Look At Jennifer Lawrence & Liam Hemsworth Filming As Katniss & Gale!

Posted Fri, May 27, 2011 2:05pm EST

Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth each take their new dark locks on the set of ‘The Hunger Games’ to film the Reaping scenes

Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth got together on the set of The Hunger Games in North Carolina today to film the very important scenes centered around the Reaping. Both female and male extras lined up as possible District 12 tributes, although we obviously already know Katniss and Peeta (where’s Josh Hutcherson?!) are the ones headed to the Capitol.

Both Jennifer and Liam had to dye their hair dark brown to play Katniss and Gale. This is our first look ever at Liam as Gale, what do you guys think?

The first Reaping of the books is vital to The Hunger Games trilogy. If Prim hadn’t been selected, then Katniss never would have volunteered which set off the chain of events for the riveting three novels which are now being adapted into movies.

With filming underway in North Carolina, we are so excited to get more info on what is happening. Local news anchor Russ Bowen is giving updates on Twitter while fans are photographing things like the District 12 sign on the side of a building.

Are any of you in North Carolina? Do you have any stories to share about filming? And what do you think of Jennifer in Katniss’s mom’s special blue dress for the reaping? Do you like Liam as Gale more now that you see him in character? And are you desperate to see Josh as Peeta? Sound off below!

I don’t care about the cast because that is what it is and when I watch the movie I will judge them however I fail to understand why they are all dressed like housewives and workmen in the 1950’s I don’t know if maybe I misinterpreted the book but I always imagined it as a sci-fi scraggly kind of wearing rags and covered in mud kind of world not just 1950’s LA if the government were crap! I hope the movie is good but the costumes….:/

*ROFL* I keep looking at comments, and they keep getting more and more hilarious! With everything I’m hearing, this movie is gonna be a disaster. Katniss is supposed to have a braid, (And it seems in the photo she doesn’t have one) and her dress looks look and plain. I don’t know if what Liam in wearing in the photo is what he wears as Gale but if it is, Gale looks old in the movie and has a weird sense of fashion for District 12. As for the photo of the extras, in the book everyone is in circle pens depending on age groups. All those people look at least 14. I loved the book but the movie keeps looking more and more horrible.

You know what, I’m judging, because the actors for this movie look like pure crap. Here comes another book that gets ruined by hollywood.

THAT’S IT!!! SHE’S HEALTHY!!! Look at her. Wasn’t Katniss described of her scrawny unhealthy body. LIAM!!! He looks f*cked up! Nowhere near hot! Where’s Josh . . . hiding? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. I imagined him blond and bleuk I wanted to puke. If he’s considered the new edward I would laugh hysterically because Robert will always be number one. I predict this movie will only gross 100,000,000 something like ‘I Am Number Four’
I agree that Liam looks thirty and Jennifer looks like a secretary in this movie. At first when I saw the magazine I was like ‘Maybe I was wrong’ but I was never wrong
Can the director please stay true to the book! BOO!

oh dear lord, why does poor Jennifer look like she’s trying out to be Cody’s newest fiancee on “Sister Wives? She’s too old for the part and her reaping dress looks more like church gown for a polygamous wife.

So gonna blow. Between the hobbit playing Peeta and the amazon playing Katniss, this is just a trainwreck waiting to happen, hahaha.

OF COURSE you can judge a movie before it’s made. You realize a movie is a sum total of it’s parts right? so if we see several “parts” that are wacked already, oh, yeah, you can judge.

What a bunch of piss and moaners you all are! There’s nothing you can do to change the cast, chill out. It is what it is. And by the looks of it, they all look damn good in their roles. They are all great actors. Jennifer and Josh especially. Jen is use to playing the somewhat hostile or strong female lead after playing Mystique(sp?) in X-Men. And Josh has been acting for so long that he’ll be able to make Peeta’s normally cheesy-roll our eyes- love lines to Katniss into a more believable but romantic manner. I watched an interview of him on either Jimmy Fallon, JLeno, Jimmy Kimmel idk and he definitely has Peeta characteristics. Humble, likable, pleasant, nice, and cute.

You can’t judge a movie that hasn’t even been made yet. I’m just glad that they are finally putting such a fantastic book to vision. SO all you yippies complaining how “it’s going to suck,” well, don’t go see it. No one likes a debbie downer..

Thank you, they really are a bunch of piss and moaners!

You can’t really judge a film just by a few set photos. Calm the eff down, everyone. First off, there’s no way a movie can be completely true to the books. It’s just not feasible. So cool it. Be glad at least a gem like The Hunger Games is being transformed into a film. I, for one, am relieved after all the Twilight crap. Now we can see a genuine heroine instead of that whiny, spineless Bella and her obsessive, sparkling stalker of a boyfriend…

And as for Jennifer Lawrence being too old, excuse me but where have the rest of you been in the past five-six decades of cinema? Actors in their mid-twenties or older have been portraying teenagers for YEARS. Jennifer Lawrence is a marvelous actress who did a phenomenal job in Winter’s Bone where her character was very similar to Katniss. As for her looking too well-fed, well, that may be true, but I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because I have faith in her acting ability to bring the character to life.

Word of advice, wait till you actually SEE the movie before you start the whining and complaining. Give these guys a chance. They may surprise you.

did they even read the books before they cast? Jennifer Lawerence is WAY too old and womanly to play Katniss. Look how healthy and curvy she is!Katniss is this scrawny, underfed girl on the brink of starvation, young looking-those are very important traits for her to have, given the district she is from. Jennifer Lawerence is a talented woman, but she should have never been cast for a role that called for some underfed young girl.

what a hot mess of a movie this will be. Jennifer looks like some polygamous mother of 4 here, not a 16 year old girl who’s fighting to just have enough to eat.

Cant judge this movie yet i have to see it but i think it was very poorly casted. And josh h. Blonde makes me shiver at the mere thought of it but idt we should judge just yet but i must say the cast kind of sucks, not to be mean but the books are wonderful. Lucas Till shouldve been Peeta and j. Lawrence…. Is too old. Its a toss up:) love the hunger games so excited but pessimistic :)

I dont understand why people are doubting them before they even started. i think that would should give them a chance.the cast got chosen for a reason, they are wonderful actors. jhutch got chosen over lucas till because of his acting skills, he is a much better actor than him. all people think about is hair color, and what they look like as opposed to their acting experience and what they would bring to their characters to make them seem real. hair dye and color contacts should be the least thing anyone thinks about. we should be thinking about how awesome the movie would come out. lastly, id like to say that we should wait and see BEFORE WE JUDGE!if the movie comes out terrible, which i doubt that it will, then you can complain, because people would feel really silly if they were complaining and the movie becomes bigger than twilight

I love Jennifer L., I really do, but she was so miscast for Katniss. She looks so womanly and healthy, and Katniss is this dark, undernourished girl, wirey looking. I’m seriously concerned for this movie, more so after looking at these pictures.

Can I say something? This movie is sooo gonna suck. Just look at Liam, I couldn’t stop laughing. I tried to stop but I couldn’t *laughs hysterically*. Anyway, * calming down* Jennifer looks 21 in that picture while Liam looks thirty. Besides I find this book shallow, the way Suzan described the characters is completely different from the one I’m seeing right now. Their nowhere near 16. I maybe wrong but I’m wont bother watching it in the cinema’s, I’ll just watch it in the internet so I won’t complain about wanting my money back. The only book turned into movie that I can’t wait to watch is the “The Host”
I love ‘The Hunger Games’ but let’s face it I’m not a fan of the movie
