LAURA SAYS: Step Aside, Lea Michele — Charice Should Totally Be The New Queen Bee Of 'Glee'!

Posted Wed, September 22, 2010 12:28am EDT

After hearing Charice sing on the season premiere of Glee, I finally get why she’s being touted as the most talented girl in the world!

As impossible as it may seem, the second season of Glee is gearing up to be even more epic than the first!

For starters, I’m glad that SOMEONE finally gave Rachel (Lea Michele) a run for her money. As Filipino foreign exchange student Sunshine, Charice stole the show! Although her bathroom scene rendition of Beyonce and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” was fab, I absolutely had chills when she sang “Listen” from Dreamgirls.

But it looks like we won’t be seeing the 18-year-old superstar on the regular (insert sad face here). In a fit of jealous rage, Rachel screwed with Sunshine‘s audition by sending her to a crack house. It’s no surprise here that the poor girl decided to transfer schools — and headed straight to rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline. Oy! But at least we know she’ll be returning for future episodes…and Rachel had better watch her back!

Glee is a testament to the fickle shifts of power in high school: one moment you’re “in” and the next you’re totally out. Although Quinn (Dianna Agron) was a social outcast as a pregnant mama-to-be last season, Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) reinstates her as head cheerleader after Santana (Naya Rivera) gets a boob job. Yep, the snarky and very masculine Cheerios coach is pissed off by Santana’s “juicy fruit” and drops her to the bottom of the cheerleading barrel.

Finn (Cory Monteith) also becomes a loser this season when he gets dropped as McKinley’s quarterback after accidentally upsetting the new SHIM coach Shannon Beiste (that’s slang for she & him — it’s hard to tell whether newcomer Dot Jones is a man or a woman!) by trying to get wheelchair bound Artie (Kevin McHale) on the team. Plus, dating Rachel isn’t doing him any favors. Although the two nauseatingly swear they’ll never break up with the other, I feel like someone needs to slap some reality into Rachel. Like Lindsay Lohan, she lives in a fantasy world where she can do no wrong! I wanted to cheer when Finn finally made her fess up to her less than pure motives for keeping Charice off the team.

What wasn’t there to love about the season premiere of Glee? We had drama, tears, an awesome song and dance number to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” and endless one-liners from Jane Lynch (although sadly there were no snide asides about the elves living in Matthew Morrison‘s hair this time). I’m literally waiting with bated breath to see what’s in store for next week’s Britney Spears episode!

Dusty, the new VA coach, slinging Sunshine’s Hello Kitty backpack as he walks off is such a classic funny in your face move!!!! Love it!!!!

The audition piece, Listen by Sunshine rocks, shocks and awes!!!!! cant get enough of her hand motions too! very diva-ish!

And as usual, the whole Glee original cast are awesome!!! Their stars are brighter than ever as season 2 promises to be another fabulous one!

What the writer of this site can not understand is that is SUNSHINE X RACHEL BERRY and NOT CHARICE X LEA MICHELE, stop trying to put one against other, it is call acting.
Charice has a beautiful voice (lea michele talks wonderful things about her) and lea has a beautiful voice and amazing acting skills.
if you watch last night you can see it.

Charice was good but the real emotion in the show came from Rachel and her What I did for Love.

Anyway you put it, like her or not, Rachel Berry is glee club and Lea Michele will be the lead actress/star until she decides to leave or the show is over.

No one is stepping in her very talented shoes.

Your little “see ya later Lea” just proves once again your dislike for her.

Please it is even silly to voice such a statement. Nothing against Charice at all, her singing of course was good
(not my favorite song) and her acting was ok for such little experience but please.

You are just making yourself look silly. And I think it has more to do for your dislike of Lea than you admiration for Chairce and the job she did.

Can really say glee would be anywhere as successful without Lea Michel and her portrayal of Rachel Berry? I think not

What?

I knew this site was largely against Lea but I thought it at last had some repesct for her talentes. Come on Lea was terrifc in that show last night. Granted you may not like what her character did but you can’t deny she acting the hell of it botht eh comedic parts and the dram and her song was sjut as good if not better than Charcies.

Singing wise these two are head to head, acting wise Charice is not in the same ball park as Lea (yet).

Even in jest Charice is not ready to take Lea Michele place and Sunshine is not ready to take Rachel’s place.

Please Chairce is fine and ca sing but come on Lea Michele is the star fo the show. While I heard this site doens’t love Lea but come on admit she had talent. It is one thing to say Charice was decent in her few minutes on air it is a whole other thing to prented she could replace Lea.

They both are great soingers, but Charice has a long way to go before she can carry a show like Lea can.

I love the way everyone harps on about how Lea is the star of the show and that she carries the show. If this is the case why didn’t she win a best actress Emmy. I believe it was Jane Lynch that won that award.

what?

Your ignorant comment amuses me. The fact alone that she has an emmy nomination for best actress in a comedy series makes her a GREAT actress. Jane Lynch was nominated for best supporting actress, they weren’t nominated in the same category.

Step aside Lea Michele? What???? Lea Michele is one of the multiple and important ingredients of Glee success. Charice is talented but just a guest. Great singer (Charice) but an amateur actress. Both Lea Michele and Charice characters are opposites but, they are NOT in real life.

her music is good but her acting skills is really bad. Why this site have to always put lea michele down is beyond logic, she is the one that is all nice compliments to the sunshine girl.

Charice stole this show! Didn’t you feel the emotion when she sang Listen? Wait until you hear her sing more cover songs like “All by Myself” “Somewhere over the Rainbow” just to name 2. YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY! Give this girl her props. God given talent can’t be denied! Enjoy the show. To The Top Baby.

This post is offensive. First of all, using “Queen Bee” in today’s pop culture market automatically sends readers into Gossip Girl territory, which shouldn’t even be referenced in the same article as Glee since it has sucked so badly for the last few seasons (and this season isn’t shaping up to be any better). So yeah, that just pissed me off to start.

My real beef with this post is that the use of the term SHIM is really obnoxious. Coach Beist is a woman. A masculine woman, but a woman nonetheless. How you could use that language after watching the episode is disgraceful, considering the point of the show, and this episode in particular is that we shouldn’t treat others as though they are beneath us. I get that you thought you were being clever, but let’s face it; it’s trite. Try getting cheap laughs elsewhere.

Love the bathroom scene w/Rachel & Sunshine with Sue interrupting them singing Telephone..Hilarious..

Sunshine’s audition song “Listen” & Rachel’s solo were both amazing though “What I Did For Love” was totally wrong given that she did that to Sunshine not out of love but of envy & selfishness.

Charice was great, as usual. Love how Rachel turned meanie again and sent her to a crack house. That was funny. If there’s one thing I’d like to hear from Charice it’s her ‘other’ voice. That non-Whitney sweet voice that people don’t get to hear too often but that’s characteristic of females from her country. Hopefully we get to hear her sing with that voice in the future. Great renditions by everyone but the rap still needs some work. Season 2 is off to a good start.

Charice was good, but her song was largely emotionless and her acting was subpar. Lea Michele stole the show once again.

Were you watching the same show or was your TV on mute – LOL ? And please explain how you can say her acting was subpar when she never even had that many lines to begin with, wherein one would be able to (from a rational perspective) judge her true abilities? I believe your last statement says it all – LOL. No further comment required on your ‘shotgun type’ commentary.

Btw: Like it or not, Charice kicked as on Ep. 1, and I believe the overwhelming positive reviews support that claim, which would mean you are in the minority – cheers !

its so funny how these people reacted. since they cannot find hole in Charice’ voice they switch into commenting her acting. Guys please understand, charice is learning how to act, she is not an actress in the first place, she is a singer. Whereas for lea she is a theater actress before this which means she has more experience in acting than Charice. no more calling of names please. just enjoy the show

Oprah will not call her “the most talented girl in the world” for nothing!and David Foster will not waste his time to this Asian if he didn’t see extra special from her!BTW, her debut album landed no. 8 on billboard(first time for Asian.
