Glee-cap: Prejudices Are Confronted & Two Characters Get Their First Kiss!

Posted Tue, November 9, 2010 10:53pm EDT

The Nov. 9 episode of ‘Glee’ delivered a powerful message of acceptance, and despite both feeling like outcasts, Kurt and Coach Biste both got their first kisses!

Kurt (Chris Colfer) decides to spy on New Directions’ future sectionals competition, the glee club at an all-boys school, and he see that the singers there are not only regarded as but “rockstars,” but are all supportive of one another. They do an adorable rendition of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ and Kurt locks eyes with club member Blaine (Darren Criss) who admits he’s gay, as well. The two have an emotional moment, sharing their struggles of being different, and I found it so satisfying to see the usually anxious Kurt feel at peace for a moment.

Meanwhile, our favorite bad-boy is back! Puck (Mark Salling) is out of juvy and serving his community service by spending time with Artie (Kevin McHale.) The two of them put on an impromptu concert collecting dollars in Puck’s guitar case. (So happy to see Kevin and Puck get some vocal time! Their voices are so strong and not recognized enough on the show!) They decide to spend their dough on dates with Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) and Puck shares his secret on how to woo women: Be a jerk! I hope high school guys watching at home don’t take that advice!

Back at McKinley, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) divides up the guys and girls for the second annual mash-up challenge, and encourages them to choose songs that are typically performed by the opposite sex. The girls put on a sexy rocker performance, complete with hot leather pants and floor crawling. Ow, ow!

The boys dedicate their mash-up of “Stop In the Name of Love” and “Free Your Mind” to Coach Biste, whom they hurt earlier when she found out some of them were thinking of her when they needing “cooling off” while getting hot and heavy with their girlfriends. Yikes! They explain their mash up is just like her, a mix of hard and sweet, and apologize for their snap judgments. Coach Biste admits to Will she just wanted to feel like a normal girl sometimes and confesses she’s never been kissed before. Ever the gentleman, Will leans in and tells her she beautiful and gives the coach her first kiss! So incredibly sweet, but I don’t think we have found the show’s next power couple!

With Blaine’s support (How sweet were the “courage” texts he sent?) Kurt decides to stand up to his bully, and during the confrontation the jock shocks everyone — including Kurt — and kisses him right on the lips! (OMG! Didn’t see that one coming!) Unfortunately the meathead goes right back to bullying, but this time around Kurt is stronger and knows the reason he is being picked on is just because his bully is scared of who he really is.

The episode carried a serious and heavy-hearted message of tolerance and acceptance, but it was conveyed in a way that was relatable and light, with some of the season’s strongest performances!

Did you watch Glee tonight? Tell me what you thought about the episode!

the girls number was fierce, and teenage dream is better in glee than in katy perry voice.
