Stumped over finding the perfect dress for your big day? Chloe spills on how to find a gorgeous gown on a budget, the do’s and don’ts of shopping for a wedding dress, and even weighs in on what our fave celebs should wear when they tie the knot!

You may know Chloe Dao as the winner of the second season of Project Runway, but since her stint on the popular show she’s come a long way! She says being on the show taught her to, “believe in her designs,” and it looks like it’s paying off, considering the designer currently has three collections — a wedding dress line she launched this summer, her higher end label DaoChloeDao, and Simply Chloe Dao, her line for QVC! You can catch Chloe and her latest collection on QVC on Jul. 2, from 9am-6pm. Her other labels are available at Lot 8.

We got to catch up with the designer, who shared all her secrets for finding the perfect frock for when you say ‘I Do’. She spilled on shopping on a budget and the crucial do’s and don’ts of finding your dream dress! She even weighed in on what some of our fave bride’s-to-be, (Hilary Duff, Emily Blunt, Nicole Richie, and Carrie Underwood), should wear on their big day!

What’s the most important thing to keep in mind when you’re looking for a dress?
“It is really important to figure out what your best body asset is and find a dress with detail or neckline to showcase that, so the dress selection can quickly be narrowed down.”

Who’s the best person to bring shopping with you?
“You should bring your best friend who has been through thick and thin with you. He or she would really be honest since they have seen you in your best and your worst outfits.”

What’s the biggest mistake girls make when they go shopping?
“I think the biggest mistake girls make when they go shopping, especially for a big day like a wedding or a fancy cocktail party, is to not wear an undergarment like Spanx. It makes such a huge difference on how you feel. You will feel so much more beautiful when the curves are all smooth instead of stressing out about losing weight to fit in the dress. Everyone has Spanx; bring it next time when you go serious dress shopping.”

What are the biggest trends in bridal right now?
“I think weddings are like fashion right now. There is no right or wrong. It’s whatever makes you happy. I really see a trend of making wedding dresses more affordable. Vera Wang doing David’s Bridal? It would have been unheard of a few years ago.”

What advice would you give to a bride shopping on a budget? What do you save on and what’s worth the splurge?
“I love brides that shop on a budget, because that would be me. I am not a spender. For me, you should spend the most on the dress because you are wearing it and you should feel beautiful on your day. The attention is on the bride and her gown which will be in photos for eternity. Fortunately, there are so many unbelievably beautiful gowns available at any price point now so that is not an issue. I would not spend lots of money a veil. I do not understand the cost of some of these veils. I say make your own or go with a gorgeous headpiece like a pretty pin or headband and save money.”

What’s the most valuable piece of advice you could give to a bride to be?
“Stand up straight! Good posture make you look thinner and more regal. You will look like the models in the wedding magazine.”

What’s the best way to accessorize your dress?
“I always find an antique brooch to be the most romantic addition to a dress.”

Changing is so popular now- what should girls look for in a dress for the ceremony and for the party?
“If you are lucky enough to do both, then make sure the dress for the ceremony is your dream dress… the one you cannot sit in because it is too tight or too big but it looks amazing or is just purely fantastically ethereal! The party dress is all about comfort and mobility, have more fun with it, I think it should be a little shorter and sexier b/c you are not the blushing bride anymore.”

So, what do you think the brides-to-be in Hollywood should wear on their special day?

Hillary Duff: We all watched Hilary Duff grow up. So on her wedding day, she should wear a dress that screams, “I am a woman now”. The dress needs to be form fitting in the hips and slowly flared out on the bottom to show off her curves. We all have seen her in the big poofy ballgown in her Disney movies and so she needs to stay clear of that silhouette.

Carrie Underwood: I see Carrie as the Southern Belle, and our ladies in the south love the big ball gown. I picture her in a strapless bustier with intricate beading and lots of drama and volume on the bottom.

Alicia Keys: I am so happy for her and love that she is rocking the belly. I love it when pregnant brides wear something fitted and embrace the belly. Show it off! She needs to celebrate her womanhood and not hide it.

Nicole Richie: Nicole is the only bride I cannot picture in a traditional wedding dress. She is more about quiet sensuality. I see her in a long Chantilly lace caftan wedding and a lace veil. Very romantic.

Katy Perry: Katy is a brunette Jessica Rabbit. She is young, hot and all about her boobs! I see her in a halter or strapless form fitting straight dress. When you have a body like that, you don’t hide it.

Emily Blunt: She is a true lady. When she walks down the red carpet, she is very regal. I see her in a soft clean silhouette like a one shoulder dress, with flowing layers of silk chiffon. She will be like a dream walking down the aisle, very Audrey Hepburn.
