Move over, Grandma! You’ve got some competition when it comes to spoiling a baby!
Designer clothes, the hottest toys, and someone who will take your side against Mom and Dad — ah, the perks of having an A-list auntie! As beauties including Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson prove, it’s the nieces and nephews who are the real stars of the family. HollyBaby.com takes a look at some of Hollywood’s most popular proud aunts — including a few who spoil their siblings’ offspring until they cry “uncle!”
Despite competition from three other sisters, “I know I’m his favorite aunt,” Kim Kardashian, 29, insists of 9-month-old Mason. Maybe it’s because she can’t stop gushing about the cutie-pie son of big sis Kourtney, 31, and baby daddy Scott Disick. “Words just can’t describe how I feel about Mason! I’m sooo in love w my nephew! I just woke him up for a kiss!” she tweeted in March. One month later, she was still speechless! “There are no words to describe how much I love my little Mason! Isn’t he gorgeous?” Yes, Kim, he certainly is!
“I’m going to spoil the kid rotten,” Jessica Simpson said prior to nephew Bronx Wentz’s November 2008 arrival. And she meant it! “Auntie Jess bought BX his first swim trunks… Burberry style!!,” Jess, 30, tweeted — along with a pic of the shorts — last year. Lately, she’s been entertained by 22-month-old Bronx’s boogieing: The son of Pete and Ashlee Simpson Wentz had rhythm when he danced to Kanye West, Jess tweeted, but he’s since lost his swagger. “Watching Bronx dance around to Justin Bieber on The View,” she wrote in March. “Can’t stop laughing!”
Embracing her niece Paris at Michael Jackson’s July 7, 2009, memorial, Janet Jackson, 44, showed the world the special bond she shares with her brother’s kids. In fact, Michael’s spiritual adviser, Rev. June Gatlin, told the Today show, “If anything happened with his mother, then he wanted Janet to have his children.” Janet is already keeping a close watch on Prince, 13; Paris, 12; and Blanket, 8; and can’t help but sing their praises. “Paris is incredibly smart; they are all so smart,” she says. “The kids are doing well.”
Out and about in Beverly Hills last summer, Solange Knowles’ son, Daniel Julez, wore a T-shirt that read “My Auntie Rocks” — and he doesn’t mean on stage! Beyoncé, 29, has taken the 5-year-old to Europe, cast him in her Nintendo DS ad, brought him to the Grammys, and lets him stay up past his bedtime. Says Solange, 24, “I’ll call expecting him to be asleep, but he’s still up.” While “Auntie BB” adores Daniel, she admits he’s made her think twice about motherhood. “I saw my nephew being born,” Beyoncé explains. “That traumatized me!”
Scream 4 star Emma Roberts admits that growing up with the Pretty Woman for an aunt was pretty neat. Among the highlights: visiting the set of Julia’s 2001 movie America’s Sweethearts. “I was 7 and in the background of one of the scenes,” recalls the 19-year-old daughter of Jula’s actor brother Eric, 54 “I got to meet Catherine Zeta-Jones, which I thought was the coolest.” While Julia has been a superstar since the time Emma was born, she still was taken aback by a recent Lancome ad featuring the mother of three. “It made me stop and think. You go, ‘Oh yeah. You’re not Aunt Julia to everyone. You’re Julia Roberts.’ That’s crazy!’”
