Stay Warm & Look Chic In A Cape, Like Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively & More!

The cape is one of winter’s hottest trends to keep you warm!

From the catwalk to celebs, capes are one of the biggest trends this season. Everything from flowing capes to feminine stoles came storming down the fall/winter 2010 runways at countless shows, including Chanel, Ralph Lauren, Yigal Azrouel, Valentino, and Luella. We first spotted them on Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, and Kelly Rutherford on the Gossip Girl set before Kate Hudson debuted her Louis Vuitton version on the red carpet. In fact, now everyone from Kate Beckinsale to the Kardashian’s are stepping out in the trend. I don’t know about you, but I think there’s something so chic about a cape — it reminds me of the way women dressed in the ’40s.

I’m still scarred from the brief yet big revival of the poncho a few years back, (I never wore one and in hindsight I don’t think the cropped, shapeless tops paired with jeans did anything for the majority of girls who pranced around in them). Don’t let those feelings stop you from embracing the cape! There are so many different ways to work the outerwear trend! If you’re getting all dressed up, I recommend a cropped, delicate version or a ruffled or faux fur stole. For everyday my favorite is a longer cape over a short dress, skirt, or even jeans. With some versions, you can even play around with a belt if you want to add more definition in your waist. Don’t bulk up too much under the cape but make sure you keep your arms warm — I love the way longer gloves look. Check out my picks below if you want to try out the trend!
