Bonnie Says: Taylor Momsen — You’re 16, You’re Selling Yourself Through Sex. STOP! Or Child Services Needs to Be Called!

Posted Mon, June 28, 2010 6:54pm EDT

Taylor Momsen the star of Gossip Girl, is trying hard to make it as a rocker exploiting her sexy corset, garter and stocking-clad body  for attention. And her role model is a 16 year-old drug addict. Someone stop the sexploitation!

Here’s the deal: last weekend Taylor performed both Friday and Saturday nights in a nylon corset so short it exposed her underpants, plus garters and black stockings .Both nights her well-endowed breasts were almost falling out of her corset top;  she sported thick ,dark black eyeliner circled heavily around her eyes and wore high clear lucite heels with the word “tips” embellished on them with dollar bills, visible inside. Nice!

Is this any way for any 16-year-old girl to dress? “She looks like she’s a hooker who’s been ravaged sexually — like she’s had rough sex,” asserts Cooper Lawrence, psychology expert and author of The Cult of Celebrity. “She’s wearing clothing that prostitutes wore in bordellos. A girl who wears garters is sending the message that she’s easily available sexually.”

Well, that’s an extremely disturbing message for any minor to be sending, especially when her audience is a mix of young teen and tween Gossip Girl show fans, and now older men, turned on by her performances with her new band, appropriately named, The Pretty Reckless.

The last time a 16-year-old made a music career out of appearing on stage clad only in a corset, panties, stockings and dark eyeliner, was when Joan Jett’s infamous Runaways lead singer, Cherie Currie created  this identical sexually provocative look, circa 1976 that Taylor is now copying completely.

Take a look at the pics here of blonde Cherie whose nickname was Cherry Bomb, and whose 16-year-old “jailbait” appeal was hugely exploited by the bands’ manager. Taylor has actually admitted in interviews to being inspired by Joan Jett’s hair. “I pulled up a bunch of photos of Joan Jett and said, “do that to my hair.” I think she’s referring to the wild roughness of Jett’s do. But hey, I think she was inspired by a lot more of Joan than her hair.

In any case, Cherie Currie is hardly the role model you’d want a 16-year-old girl to have today. She famously became a drug addict, overdosed, quit the band and battled drug addiction for many years. Oh, and that’s after she experimented with a whole lot of sex — heterosexual, lesbian and group bed-ins.

Today, she’s a recovered addict and would probably shake her head at copycat Momsen, and warn her of the dangers of exploiting her jailbait sexuality to sell her new album, Light Me Up

Taylor seems to think that she’s grown-up enough to use her body as a selling tool without repercussions. She’s said, “I live a very adult life: I have two different careers; what am I going to do, hang out with high school kids? I just can’t relate to what they talk about — it seems so petty.”

Well, if you’re so mature Taylor, then you’d see the hazards of encouraging grown men to look at you with lust.

“If you put Taylor’s photos where she’s showing her underwear up on a porn site, her parents could be arrested for child pornography,” believesDr. Jenn Berman, a psychotherapist and host on Cosmo Radio. “If I put a picture like that on the internet and my daughter was 16, Child Services would be calling. Why is it different if your child can make millions?”

The bottom line is that no matter how old Taylor thinks she is, she’s still only a teen and she’s ultimately having her “jailbait” sexuality like Cherie Currie — exploited to sell a product — her music.

If she has the writing and singing talent, she thinks she has, does she really need to rely on hookerwear to sell her music?

Britney went down the jailbait road too and it hasn’t turned out very well for her. Miley’s trying the same thing, though even her vampy getups don’t go nearly as far as Taylor’s’.

“These talented young girls become objects and pawns for people who they make money for — including parents. Ultimately, it becomes a very empty experience — and they don’t feel loved for themselves, only for what they can produce for money and attention, and then they reach for drugs,” warns Dr. Berman.

Taylor- take warning from your role model, the Cherry Bomb, Cherrie Curry!  Taylor, you and your parents, need to stop selling your sexuality.

Maybe Child Services should be called to save you from yourself!

Reading this article in 2013 almost 2014 is hilarious. Taylor seems to be developing a great career, doing what she wants and is still a decent person with no sex related scandal to be heard of. Miley on the other hand, dear god someone take her away.

I’ve been browsing on-line more than three hours as of late, but I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful worth sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made excellent content as you did, the web will likely be a lot more helpful than ever before.

All of these nonsense stories about Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless……. First of all, this one the title of the article claims she’s 16 and the one I just previously looked at written by the same person, the title says she’s 17….both are WRONG! She is IN FACT 18. She is a very creative and artistic person. If you can’t accept that, then you need to look at yourself.

This girl is disgusting. I can’t believe she calls herself an “adult” because she has a very “adult life” – I’m her age; I graduated a year and a half early from high school to go to a top public university and live in my own apartment from 16. I’m surrounded by people twice my age quite often, and probably see someone under 18 once a week where I live. I don’t believe Momsen is adultlike – even I have a lot to learn, and she can’t call herself such when she dresses like a slut to sell her image and music, drops out of high school, and can’t articulate well enough in interviews to sell breakfast cereal. She can’t even play lead guitar, for God’s sake. I don’t get it.

WTF! “A girl who wears garters is sending the message that she’s easily available sexually.” how does that make any sense? Back in the day every single girl wore garters, to keep your stockings up! And I dont really see anything wrong with what she is wearing, just because its “underwear” dosnt make it any more provocative then some girls who wear tiny shorts and bra like tops does it? To me she is actually more covered then a lot of singers iv seen

No one is justifying rape in this article so I have no idea where that crap is coming from. The entire point of this article is that this girl is acting like she is in her mid-twenties when she’s still a child, she can’t even drive yet! It’s comparing her to The Runaways and the path she will most likely go down if she continues with her behavior. This is more of a warning sign of things to come then just average teenage rebellion and reading interviews of her band just makes it that more clear. (They’ve already admitted to drug use)

Also, no one goes out dressing up in just panties,a corset, and exposed garters without expecting attention from men. That’s moronic to expect they won’t look at you if you butt is hanging out. When you have your privates showing YES IT GIVES OFF THE IMPRESSION WANT TO HAVE SEX OR BE LOOKED AT SEXUALLY. There’s a difference between going out with a little bit of clevage or a short skirt and not wearing any clothes, she can barely stand without flashing people. It’s fine for Lady Gaga to do because she is LEGAL.

Overall, she’s a very pathetic teenage girl seeking attention and sees in the tabloids the fastest way to do this is act like a whore. America loves watching these young girls sprial out of control. She needs to get a better attitude of life (and herself) and put on some clothes, if it’s so important for her to be an orignal musician and be herself she should be attempting to do that through her music and acting not through being scandalous and not wearing clothing.

I think it’s weird that people expect a girl to dress down because old men are looking at her.. Why would she have to do that? It’s not her fault that they’re are perverted eyes around her.

You mean ‘there are.’ No one’s expecting a girl to “dress down,” but she should dress like she wants to sell her music for what it is – music, not sex.

“Is this any way for any 16-year-old girl to dress? “She looks like she’s a hooker who’s been ravaged sexually — like she’s had rough sex,” asserts Cooper Lawrence, psychology expert”

I think the real problem isn’t how she dresses, it’s how some people look at her. If grown men need a 16 year old to wear extremely covering clothing just so they don’t “look at them with lust”, then that’s the problem.

My friend got raped by her foster father when she was 13, in court his lawyer literally brought up how she “runs around in skimpy outfits” which was “misleading” for her foster father. Quite blaming the victims. Wearing a garter belt doesn’t mean you want to have sex, it means you want to hold up your stockings.

This article is honestly disgusting.

No, don’t try to put words in anyone’s mouth. That’s not what the author is suggesting, if I’m correct; she’s suggesting she’s trying to sell her body. We’re not talking about the other end, here. If something doesn’t make sense to you, read it again.

I don’t agree, the author isn’t saying she’s asking to be raped at all. She’s saying that Momsen is trying to sell her image by appealing to men’s sex drives, rather than actually promoting her music with what it should be… actual talent.

It isn’t one’s apperance that causes rapes, it is the rapist that causes rape. It really has nothing to do with how modestly one dresses. The act of sexual violation is so complicated and heartbreakingly awful that to connect it with clothes not only glosses over the issue but also doesn’t help the rape victim or rapist heal.

Taylor Momsen can dress however she wants, every teenager I’ve meet has played with their sexuality though their appearance at some point. If you don’t like it then look at someone else.

First off this whole article is blame the victim stuff and this article is disgusting:
No one should say this to a girl or woman
“Well, if you’re so mature Taylor, then you’d see the hazards of encouraging grown men to look at you with lust.”
This article constantly implies social and structural problems, for example that Cherry Bomb’s manager exploited her, yet instead of holding accountable the managers and the entertainment industry, the writer blames the musicians.
And no one is asking for rape no matter how they dress nor if they are a prostitute. And it should not shameful to be a prostitute. It is as wrong to rape a prostitute as anyone else. We as a society need to eliminate the stigma of prostitution, so that everyone is seen as a full person.

Oh give me a break. She may be 16 technically. But I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone that growing up in Hollywood and being a star on Gossip Girl, while being surrounding by 25 – 40 year olds all day she is going to be mature for her age.

Are you going to call child services because she is 16 and works 16 hour days on the set of Gossip Girl sometimes? Noo..? Cause it’s a two way street. No one seems to care about her age then!
hypocrites.

No one seems to care about her age then? Well, working 16 hour days in some states IS illegal. We’re not talking about working hard, here. This article isn’t about that. I don’t think a journalist can address 500 different things in 500 words, can they?
