No trouble telling these two apart! Boy Ghabriael takes after his mom Khristi, who’s white, and girl Triniti looks like her dad Charles, who’s black. Amazing!
17-month-old twins Ghabriael and Triniti may be brother and sister, but they look nothing alike! That’s because, with odds a million to one, light-skinned and blue-eyed Ghabriael looks like mommy, while dark-skinned and brown-eyed Triniti takes after daddy. Incredible, right?
“People ask, “How did it happen? Are you sure they are twins?” We get a lot of stares, and I am sure people make comments behind my back,” 29 year-old Khristi Cunningham tells ABC News about her babies. “I don’t know how it happened. They are fraternal twins, so they aren’t any closer than if they had been born years apart. Ours just happen to have the same birthday.”
This happens because skin and eye color are determined by several different genes, rather than a single one, but still, seeing twins — identical or fraternal — that looks so different is very rare.
Khristi wrote an article on the blog mixedandhappy.com, which caters to mixed race families. She says some commenters are wonderful, while others are very judgemental calling her children “weird” and saying they will be “ridiculed their whole lives.”
“No one gets to say if they are black or white,” Khristi says. “It’s not a choice and to me they are perfect and will grow up to be loved. There’s too much hate. People should be more worried about whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat.”
What do you think of this amazing genetic phenomenon?
