Looking for some hair inspiration this spring? Try out one of these beautiful braided ‘dos!
If you haven’t figured it out by now, braids are back in a big way. Every day this week a starlet has been stepping out with a fun and totally different take on the trend. If you’ve been looking for fun ways to wear spring’s most ubiquitous hair trend, look no further. We’ve got the week’s prettiest and most covetable looks right here.
I love the fresh take Malin Akerman took on the braid at an NYC screening of her new flick, Elektra Luxx on Apr. 9. In the front, Malin went for a dramatic side part that was slicked back into a ponytail. She used a hair elastic in a shade similar to her hair color. Then, she loosely braided only half of the pony. Malin left the ends straight and wrapped a small amount of hair around the elastic to hide it. I really like this look, and, it’s super easy to do yourself. I might even cheat and try it with wet hair on a hot summer day.
Hilary Duff showed up to Good Housekeeping’s 125th Anniversary party in NYC on Apr. 12 sporting a gorgeous braided bun. There are so many things I love about her take on spring’s most ubiquitous trend. Firstly, the height in the front. It lends softness to the overall look and is super flattering since it’s not slick to her head. The wispy pieces coming down by her ears add to the romantic, easy feel of the updo as well. Lastly, the fishtail braid that has been wrapped around itself in the back is truly unique. I’ve seen a lot of regular braids pinned up into a bun but Hilary’s fishtail version is totally unexpected and oh so pretty.
Jessica Alba was sporting a super-chic yet totally daytime appropriate braid while out in LA running errands on Apr. 13. I love that she kept her hair a little fuzzy – easy to do if you’re creating this look on two day old hair yourself. To copy Jessica, part your hair on one side and make a three-inch wide French braid starting at the part. When you get to your ear, just braid the hair regularly and then secure at the end with an elastic. Gather all the rest of the hair except the braid into a low, messy bun. The more haphazard, the cooler it will look. Then, using bobby pins, attach the end of the braid to the head. I will definitely be trying this style out this weekend. Can you see yourself wearing this look for a casual Sunday brunch with friends too?
Mary Kate Olsen jumped on the braid bandwagon at a restaurant opening in NYC on Apr. 14. MK went for a pretty “headband” version by twisting a braid around the top portion of her head and gathering it into a half bun in the back. I love how her tousled tresses and the soft, slightly undone braid make her look like a medieval princess. I definitely suggest trying this look out this weekend. It’ll look great with one of this season’s pretty floral frocks.
At the reopening of the Tod’s boutique in Beverly Hills on Apr. 15 both Jessica Alba and Camilla Belle wore a version of a braided updo. Jesssica and Camilla both parted their hair down the middle and braided both sides back into eachother. Jessica’s braid is a more traditional French braid while Camilla went for a looser version. Camilla opted to leave her hair in an almost half ponytail while Jessica pinned all the pieces of her hair to her head. - Marta Topran
