'American Idol' Recap: Was Chris Medina Wrongfully Eliminated?

Fan favorite Chris Media got booted before he made the Top 24, but judging from Jennifer Lopez’s distraught reaction to his cut, this might not be the last time we see him!

Chris Medina warmed the hearts of the American Idol judges and fans during the season 10 auditions in Milwaukee with the tragic tale of his paraplegic fiancee. Unfortunately, his sad story didn’t carry him all the way to the Top 24. In one of the most competitive years in Idol history, the 27-year-old musician was cut in an emotional elimination.

Watching Jennifer Lopez break down after giving Chris the bad news during the Feb. 23 episode was almost more upsetting than seeing the talented barista walk out the door. Despite Randy Jackson and Stephen Tyler‘s reassurances, J. Lo literally could NOT hold it together. She was sobbing into her tissue and threatening to quit the elimination portion of the competition.

Even though I thought producers over dramatized the situation for the sake of having a “cliff hanger,” I have to give Jennifer props. Never before has one of the world’s most notorious divas been so relatable and sympathetic.

Although Chris got the ax, five of his competitors were admitted to the Top 24: Haley Reinhart, 18; Naima Adedapo, 26; Clint Jun Gamboa, 26; Paul McDonald, 27; Ashton Jones, 24. Many of the featured minors — aka Scotty, Tia Magia and Lauren Alaina — will discover their fates tomorrow.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the last we’re going to see Chris. I’ve already received word he’ll be performing on Jay Leno‘s The Tonight Show Friday, Feb. 25. Plus, there’s scuttlebutt in the fan community the judges will bring him back in the wild card round, which will be announced March 3.

Do YOU think Chris deserved to be in the Top 24? Do you agree with the first five contestants they revealed? Sound off below!

Without seeing who else makes into the top 24 its hard to say just yet if he was wrongfully eliminated. He is good, but the competition is strong this year…

I don’t think it is for Jennifer Lopez to be a judge here, the way she acted when she had judged Chris Medina on the American Idol program last week. Jennifer Lopez is too good a hearted if she breaks down into tears in order to eliminate a singer, a contestant. It’s like almost like being a doctor: if you’re gonna ‘hurt’ every time you take care of a patient, this job is not for you! You can’t be affected by your observation of a patient or a contestant. If you do, it’s gonna be very hard on your soul and it will have a toll on your mood and life in general. It will take away all the good spirit you got. So, if you can’t be objective when you pass your judgment, in that show, then budge. This job is not for you Jennifer Lopez. I love you Jennifer Lopez, you are a great singer and dancer, but being like or taking the place of Paula Abdul, is a bit tricky. It’s gonna make your life miserable every time you get so upset when you have to eliminate someone from the competition. I think you oughtta reconsider your role at American Idol. And besides, go back to singing and dancing! You are/were great at it! I don’t know why you had to stop doing that. It is a shame, being gifted like you in music and just drop it completely. ‘Tis a pity!

I felt some of the people that got in the top 24 last night weren’t that great so yes I feel like Chris Medina was wrongfully eliminated. He was great in my opinion in his last performance while a few others were not. I just hope Lauren and Scotty make it in the top 24 tonight, I’ll be pissed if they don’t.
