With more A-list musical performances than your typical awards show, the ‘American Idol’ finale blew everyone out of the water May 25! The show was epic!
The American Idol creators and producers must have been eating their Wheaties and drinking their Red Bull this week. Usually reality competition shows have lackluster, cheesy and boring finales, but that wasn’t the case with the American Idol Grand Finale May 25 — it was better than the Grammys!
The night started with a cute — albeit cheesy — Lady Gaga cover from the top 13 contestants that reminded us of a Glee performance. However, it was only up hill from there. Jack Black performed a duet with Casey Abrams; James Durbin wailed with Judas Priest; Gladys Knight gave a stirring performance with the dynamic Jacob Lusk and the legendary Tony Bennett sang a jazz number with Haley Reinhart.
Throughout the two hour program, the special guest stars just kept on coming. We completely lost our composure when Beyonce surprised the audience by coming on stage to perform “Single Ladies” with the top girls — and then really freaked out for the pop queen herself, Lady Gaga.
And it didn’t stop there!
Tim McGraw crooned with Scotty McCreery; Marc Anthony brought some flavor with a Latino song (and a very sexy back up dancer named Jennifer Lopez); Beyonce sang her new single and Lauren Alaina belted it out with her idol, Carrie Underwood.
The night came to an end with an unexpected and over-the-top amazing appearance by the cast of Spider Man and Bono and finished with a solo by the one and only, Steven Tyler. Sure, Scotty, 17, won the title of American Idol, but who could even pay attention to the results with a show that put the grand in finale?
