Rihanna, Katy Perry & more turned up on the red carpet, but which look did you really love?
The American Music Awards never disappoint when it comes to pulling out both gorgeous get-ups and eccentric styles, and the show on Nov. 21 did just that — while it’s never filled with a slew of breathtaking gowns, it’s definitely very interesting! Is it just me or did the majority of the stars show off very different looks? I was so surprised to see Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus, to name a few!
Miley just turned 18, and now that she’s officially an adult she pulled out her best look yet — a gorgeous strapless Marchesa from the spring 2011 collection, complete with a train. When I first saw this dress during Fashion Week, I was convinced Marchesa fan Blake Lively would be the first to show off this frock — but I guess the pop star beat her to it! Miley completed the look with Neil Lane jewels.
Another different look on the red carpet was Taylor — she ditched her usual ultra girly look for a super straight ‘do, although she couldn’t give up her penchant for sparkly minis. The singer wore an embellished dress by Collette Dinnigan and Jimmy Choos- – even though it wasn’t totally different, I liked the vetro vibe.
While I’m used to seeing Katy looking kooky, the newlywed looked so ladylike in a pale pink embellished Badgley Mischka strapless from the spring 2011 collection. I was so surprised to see her in something so soft and feminine– there weren’t any bright colors in sight! She paired the frock with peep-toe Brian Atwood pumps. While I liked her red carpet get-up, some may think she looked like she was playing dress up.
Rihanna loves to make a statement on the red carpet, and in a fiery red Elie Saab couture gown that seemed to perfectly match her hair color she did just that. I don’t mind the dress and I like how it’s different, but all together, this look is just too much — I think the hair takes away from the overall look on the star. Later on, RiRi changed into a sexy yet chic green one-shoulder draped gown, also by Elie Saab. I thought she looked absolutely stunning in her second dress of the night.
I’m almost always impressed with Jessica Alba, and she didn’t disappoint when she decided to take a chance in an edgy look. In a black Cushnie et Ochs frock and her hair slicked back, she’s definitely one of the better dressed stars of the night. She completed her look with Aandra Neen jewels and a clutch from the same designer and Christian Louboutin pumps.
Kelly Osbourne showed off her svelte frame in a black strapless Christian Dior. I liked the dress, but her hair reminded me of a bad ‘do you would come across in an old high school yearbook!
Former reality star Whitney Port stood out in one of the better dresses I saw on the red carpet, by designer Rafael Cennamo — but I can’t say the same for Kesha! I guess since Lady Gaga didn’t show, she felt the need to go for something over the top — but I don’t think it worked on the star. With studded eyebrows, a mohawk, and a plunging black get-up, this look was just wrong.
Overall, I really wasn’t impressed with the looks we saw on the red carpet — but at least they were interesting. Who did you think was best dressed?
