Michael Kors (born Karl Anderson Jr.in Long Island, New York on [August 9, 1959) is an American fashion designer. Because his mother was a model int he fashion industry, Michael was exposed to fashion at a very young age. At just the age of five, Michael redesigned his mother’s wedding dress, and by the time he was a teen, he was already designing his own clothes and selling them. In 1977, Michael, formerly known as Karl, enrolled into the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where he quickly gained more and more skills and knowledge of the fashion world. After a number of positions at various fashion companies, Michael launched his self-titled womenswear brand in 1981, at Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other major department stores. Michael quickly became the talk of the industry, and has since launched a number of subdivisions for his Michael Kors collection. His career has not only grossed millions in sales, but has earned him a slot in New York Fashion Weeks and even a trip to the White House. And the style icon has also been referenced in a number of pop culture songs and films.
