Lionel Richie (born Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr. in Tuskegee, Alabama on June 20, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, musician and actor. In 1968, Lionel was a member of the musical group Commodores, which was signed to Motown Records. In 1982, Lionel debuted a solo, self-titled album. Lionel is one of the best selling artists of all-time having sold over 100 million records worldwide. He has a long list of hit songs including, “Hello”, “Truly” and “Say You, Say Me.” Lionel has won many awards including four Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

Lionel married his college sweetheart Brenda Harvey on Oct. 18, 1975. The pair adopted Nicole Richie when she was 2 years-old in 1983. Lionel formally adopted Nicole when she was nine. In 1993, Brenda and Lionel divorced. Lionel married Diane Alexander on Dec. 21, 1995. They have two kids together, Miles Richie born in 1994 and Sofia Richie born in 1998. Lionel and Diane divorced in 2004. Lionel has been an active supporter of Breast Cancer Research Foundation and has raised over 3 million dollars for the charity.
