Bio: George Harvey Strait, Sr. (born George Harvey Strait in Poteet, Texas on May 18, 1952) is an American country music singer, actor, and music producer known as the “King of Country.” He is known for his neotraditionalist country style.
Best Known For: George Strait is best known for being the “King of Country” and for staying true to traditional country sound. He has won multiple awards and has the biggest-selling boxed set in country music history.
Personal Life: George married his high school sweetheart, Norma, in 1971. George and Norma had son George Strait, Jr., known as “Bubba,” in 1981. Their daughter, Jenifer, was killed in an automobile accident in San Marcos on June 25, 1986, at the age of thirteen. The family has since set up the Jenifer Lynn Strait Foundation, which donates money to children’s charities in the San Antonio area.
In his spare time, George enjoys hunting, fishing, skiing, playing golf, and riding motorcycles. He and his son are partners in team roping competitions. George and brother Buddy hosted the annual George Strait Team Roping Classic, in which they competed against some of the best team ropers in the world.
George is the spokesman for the Wrangler National Patriot program, a campaign to raise awareness and funds for American military veterans and their families. George has one grandson, George H. Strait, III.
