Ed Koch (born Edward Irving Koch in The Bronx, New York City, NY on December 12, 1924) is a lawyer, politician, and political commentator. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977. Following that, he served three terms as the mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. After his years as mayor, he became partner in a law firm, worked as a commentator on politics, and had a stint as the judge on The People’s Court from 1997 to 1999. He has appeared in more than 60 Hollywood films and TV shows as himself, including Sex and the City, Spin City, and Saturday Night Live.

Personal Life:
Ed has been a lifelong bachelor. His sexuality has been questioned throughout his political career, especially in the 1977 mayoral election, when posters and placards appeared with the slogan “Vote for Cuomo, Not the Homo”. During the campaign and after winning the election, he began attending public events with former Miss America, Bess Myerson.
