1) Abby Has Won Every Award – Except One
In US Women’s Soccer, Abby Wambach has almost done it all. In college, Abby led the University of Florida to win its first NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. She is a six time U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year, and has received both the FIFA Bronze Boot and Silver Ball. She has won two Olympic Gold Medals, in 2004 and 2012. She was even named the FIFA World Player of the Year in 2012. There’s only one prize she has yet to win — the Women’s World Cup.

2) Abby Is The US All Time Leading Scorer
Abby has been a regular part of the United States Women’s National Team since 2003. During her time with the team, she has become the highest all-time goal scorer. She also holds the world record for international goals for both female and male players, with 184 points.

3) Abby’s Trademark Movie Is The Diving Header
Abby is known for her ability to jump forward and headbutt the ball into the net – a diving header. Abby developed her ability to pull this move off while she was a teen and it has become a signature weapon in her arsenal.

4) Abby Is A Screamer
Abby brings a level of intensity that helps propel her team to victory and that often involves a lot of screaming and swearing! During the June 26 match between the US and China, Abby let her emotions fly, dropping the F-bomb to psyche her teammates into scoring the win!

5) This Is Abby’s Last World Cup
Abby announced in March that this is her last chance to win the Women’s World Cup, as she won’t participate in the 2019 tournament. Before the 2015 tournament, Abby was involved in three World Cups.

The US placed third in 2003 and 2007. Abby and Team USA made it to the finals in 2011, only to lose to Japan. If the US doesn’t win when they face the #1 ranked Germany on June 30, or if they fall in the Finals, it will be a sad ending to Abby’s legendary international career. Here’s hoping she takes her team to the finals and finally raises the World Cup!
