Joshua Gurto, who’s suspected of raping & killing a baby girl, has officially been arrested! Nearly 3 weeks after the heinous crime, the Ohio man was finally taken into custody in PA after being on the run.
Authorities have finally captured a wanted Ohio man, Joshua Gurto, 37, who they say raped and murdered a 13-month-old baby girl named Sereniti Jazzlynn-Sky Blankenship-Sutley. Joshua had evaded police capture for weeks but was finally detained on Oct. 27 — a whole 20 days after baby Sereniti died. He was finally caught after being spotted on Oct. 13 at a convenience store in Girard, Pennsylvania. Joshua was buying groceries and taking money out of an ATM, authorities said. Later, after another sighting on Oct. 26, authorities swarmed a Pittsburgh park.
Joshua ended up being apprehended in Pittsburgh’s Franklin Park around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 27, according to KDKA. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Sereniti was found on Oct. 7 with blunt force trauma to the head and lower body, Pete Elliott, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio, said. “She was badly beaten,” he told TIME magazine. Initially, after being discovered in a Conneaut, Ohio apartment, Sereniti was just unresponsive. However, she later died at a hospital. Click here to see pics of some of the saddest deaths of 2017.
It’s believed that Joshua was the boyfriend of Sereniti’s mother, a 22-year-old woman. When he was captured, he was wearing camouflage and had a backpack with him. The suspect also had maps of New Jersey and Pennsylvania with him, as well as a knife, authorities said. Leading up to his arrest, there was a $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to Joshua’s capture.
