Ever wonder what your favorite WNBA athletes warm up to? While they’re sinking shots before big games, Tina Charles, Brittany Boyd and the rest of the NY Libery ladies are jamming to A-list artists such as Nicki Minaj, Migos, DJ Khaled and more!
Welcome to the New York Liberty locker room! If you happen to get the chance to witness the WNBA team in action, you’ll see that they’re always pumped up before big games, especially at the Garden. And, it’s due in part to their pre-game music! HL got a sneak peek at the team’s official warm-up playlist and all we’re going to say is, you’re welcome. If you want the ultimate workout, you may want to peep this entire track list, players like Shavonte Zellous, 31, Tina Charles, 28, Brittany Boyd, 24, Kiah Stokes, 24, and the rest of the lady Liberty jam to before games!
From Rihanna, 29, to Migos and Travis Scott, 25, the women warriors like to bust a move before killing it on the court! “If you really wanna know, I’m the dancer of the team,” Zellous admitted to Tidal. “Certain songs get me in the dance mood. I use my umbrella like my prop. It’s just an exciting time to lift the spirit before we go out on the court and play a physical game.” Too cute!
And, if you thought their playlist remains the same, think again! Zellous, in particular, has a strategy to how she discovers new music. “When I’m out in the clubs, I hear new stuff so I download it or Shazam stuff if I don’t know and then we bring it in here and everybody [says] yay or nay,” she explained.
While Zellous can pretty much get in the mood with almost any type of beat, Stokes made sure to point out that hip-hop is the real genre that gets the Liberty in game mode. “This year’s been a little rocky,” she confessed, adding, “Sometimes, [critics] would say we were a little too uptight.” However, that wasn’t the case. “We’re just trying to have a good time and I think our music reflects that,” Stokes said.
Not matter what outcome the Liberty have — a big win, or a tough loss — the key is for them to eliminate stress before games. And, music is the solution. “It’s just more stress relief for us, just getting to laugh, watching me dance before we go on the court,” Zellous quipped. “It’s just for us to be relaxed before we go out, play, have fun and enjoy it.”
