Two of the biggest names in country music joined forces for one of the biggest performances of the night at the CMT Music Awards on June 7! Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban changed up their hit ‘The Fighter’ a bit onstage, and it was beyond incredible.
Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban took the stage together at the CMT Music Awards on June 7, and as always, they absolutely killed it when they performed their duet “The Fighter.” The track was featured on Keith’s 2016 album Ripcord, and has totally owned the charts this year, so it’s always a treat to get to see them perform it live together. For this performance, the iconic duo decided to slow the song down a bit, giving a stripped down rendition rather than the usual upbeat one we’re used to hearing. While Keith played guitar and belted out his lyrics, Carrie looked stunning in a white gown with cutouts while she sang her part. The whole thing was absolutely stunning, and for the last chorus, they picked things up to the usual tempo again.
Along with this performance, the CMT Awards are a big night for both Keith and Carrie, as they’re both nominated for multiple awards. Together, they’re up for Collaborative Video of the Year for “The Fighter,” and they’re also both nominated in the highly-coveted Video of the Year Category for “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and “Church Bells,” respectively. Plus, they’re each up for Male Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year, while Keith, the most-nominated artist of the night, is going against Brett Eldredge, Jake Owen, Kelsea Ballerini, Lauren Alaina and Thomas Rhett for Social Superstar, too.
The CMT Awards have treated Keith and Carrie well in the past — he’s won Video of the Year twice and has four CMT Awards in total, while she’s taken home Video of the Year a whopping six times and has 15 CMT Awards under her belt. No big deal, right?!
