Brett Young totally stole the spotlight at the CMT Music Awards, June 7, making our hearts melt with a performance of his soulful single ‘In Case You Didn’t Know.’ Get all of the details right here!
Brett Young, 36, lit up the stage at Music City Center in Nashville, TN, but we didn’t expect anything less from the rising country superstar! He looked casual cool in a button-down shirt and slacks, crooning the love song from where he sat on a stool as his band played behind him and colored lights beamed down. So good!
Ahead of the big night, Brett revealed to CMT Hot 20 that he finally feels like he has a place at the CMT Music Awards. “The first award show that I attended (was) a week before my first single went to radio. And I remember feeling like, ‘What am I doing here?’ Kind of fish out of water,” he shared. Obviously, things have changed since then!
Brett and “In Case You Didn’t Know” were also nominated tonight for Breakthrough Video of the Year. “You put material out and you just hope people connect with it and enjoy it, so the fact that it connected so well that it got put up for an award is extremely humbling and flattering,” Brett told CMT Hot 20 of the video. “In order to let people make it their story, we didn’t want to tell too much of our own story. That’s how we wrote the song, and that ended up being what we wanted to do for the video. That’s why there’s not a lot of interaction with the girl in the video. It’s just really simple — just me and a guitar and a song — and we let it be about the lyrics,” he added. Unfortunately he didn’t win, but he still put on a stellar performance!
