There are so many diet tips and tricks out there, so knowing what to do can be confusing. But this expert says deprivation is NOT the answer and actually RECOMMENDS eating chocolate. Sign us up! Read her tips below.
Yesterday I worked out with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson and also met and chatted with nutrition expert and dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner. She works with the Chicago Cubs! She says you should have dessert to signal to your body that you are done eating for the night. “End every night with hot mint tea, like NOW Real Tea Ginger Mint Comfort Tea, and a small piece of dark chocolate. It will help signal ‘doneness’ to stop night munchies and get you into a mode of relaxation before bed.” Gunnar agrees: “Don’t give up dessert; you’ll just want it more. Have a small dessert every night for a week then NO dessert for 2 weeks, then repeat. You’ll look forward to having it again and work harder to do so. And if you need that chocolate fix in between, sprinkle a few NOW Real Food Cacao Nibs into your yogurt or even grab a few from the bag as a nutrient-rich snack sure to satisfy!” I find that a very small piece of a really high-quality dark chocolate is totally satisfying.
Yesterday, I tried Dawn’s Chocolate BeetBerry Smoothie, which does not taste like beets AT ALL, it tastes like a chocolate milkshake! It was so good. Here is what you need: 1 beet, peeled and chopped (about 1 cup); 1 cup strawberries; 1 banana; 1 ½ cups unsweetened plant milk, like almond or hemp; ¾ cup NOW Real Food Raw Cashews; 1 ½ tbsp NOW Real Food Organic Raw Cacao Powder; ½ cup ice cubes.” Here’s what to do: “In a blender, combine the beet, berries, banana, milk, cashews and cocoa powder, and puree. Add the ice and blend until smooth. If you’re making this for one, the extra serving can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.” The cacao powder delivers a ton of flavor and NO sugar! It’s a win, win!
Dawn also recommends switching coffee for tea — it will still give you energy! “Buy a new flavor of green tea and enjoy a cup hot or iced. Green tea is nature’s own five-hour energy boost. Tea naturally contains caffeine for energy and theanine for focus. Not a huge tea fan but still want to reap the health benefits? Try it in a concentrated form with this NOW Green Tea Extract supplement.” Remember to talk to your doctor before starting any diet or nutrition plan.
