It’s going to be an extravagant, elegant wedding fit for a princess – or, at least, the sister of one. Pippa Middleton will tie the knot on May 20, and her Scottish-themed wedding details include artisanal haggis, locally produced whisky and, of course, bagpipes!
Pippa Middleton’s, 33, big day is going to be all about Scotland, as the younger sister of Princess Kate Middleton, 35, is set to marry James Matthews, 41, in a ceremony that celebrates the northern country of the United Kingdom. The 300 guests attending the wedding at the Middleton family home near the village of Englefield will be fed haggis canapés and lamb from Scotland’s Glen Affric region, all while drinking local whisky. “Everything will be Scottish in nature – bagpipes, the lot,” a source told the Daily Mail. Yes, that’s right – bagpipes. The couple has also reportedly brought in a bagpiper to serenade those gathered to see these two get married.
There will also be 17 pounds of beluga caviar, given to the couple by an anonymous Russian donor. That’s one incredible wedding gift, as that caviar is reportedly worth more than $52,000 dollars! There will also be some surprises for the guests, as Pippa – who has been meticulously overseeing all the details – has ordered table tennis tables to be placed inside a £100,000 glass marquee. Why the Ping Pong tables? It’s reportedly Pippa’s favorite sport. There will also be a “surprise act” performing at the after party. Overall, the wedding is expected to cost £330,000 – or $427k. Wow!
So, what’s with the Scotland theme? Pippa, born in Reading, Berkshire, England, is not Scottish. Nor is James. Yet. Pippa did study at Edinburgh University and James’s father, David Matthews, owns a castle an 10,000 acres just 15 miles away from Loch Ness in Scotland’s Highlands. David Matthews, by purchasing that lot in 2008, also gave him the Scottish title of the Laird of Glen Affric. James will inherit the title one day, meaning that Pippa will become Lady Glen Affric. That’s so cool!
The Matthews family didn’t just get a title when they purchased the land: they also got their own tartan. A tartan (what Americans called plaid) is a fabric pattern featuring vertical and horizontal stripes. The clans of Scotland would have their own unique tartans, each with their own colors and designs. So, the Glen Affric tartan – one that’s red and green — now belongs to James’s family. While it’s unconfirmed he’ll wear a kilt of that particular tartan, sources tell the Mail that the design will be incorporated into his outfit. Nice! Pippa won’t be wearing a tartan. Instead, she’ll be glad in a gorgeous handmade bridal gown!
