Liam Payne Declares That He’s ‘Free’ From One Direction In Major Diss On Solo Track

First Liam Payne dissed Harry Styles, and now he’s taking on all of One Direction! His solo single ‘Strip That Down’ dropped today, May 19, and though it’s sung so quickly that you might miss it, there’s a huge slam towards the band. Obviously, 1D fans are livid!

Liam Payne, 23, kicked off his solo career by firing shots at One Direction! “You know, I used to be in 1D (now I’m out, free)/People want me for one thing (that’s not me),” he sings on his new song “Strip That Down,” with the help of Quavo, 26. It comes right after he basically declared that he doesn’t like Harry Styles‘ solo music (“It’s not something I’d listen to”) and now he’s going for the rest of the guys, too! Hear it above.

Naturally, 1D fans are furious that Liam is trying to distance himself from the band. “Like do not diss on the group that MADE you,” one fan tweeted. “Was that lyric about 1D necessary?” another wrote. Others are scared that this probably means the band is never reuniting! Take a look at more tweets:

That being said, Liam actually explained the line in a May 19 interview, saying that it’s more about being free from the constrictive management and obligations that came with being in 1D. “We were very worried about this line. I never wanted it to be taken in a negative light. I think it’s a very positive one,” he said on the Bizarre Life podcast. “I don’t think it’s a case of ‘now we’re moving on’ sort of thing. It’s more so the freedom to write the music you want to write, and I think that’s what this hiatus is for everybody…we’re all free to go out and do our own business.” Hmm!

HollywoodLifers, are you shocked by Liam’s diss? Or do you think it wasn’t meant to be taken that way? Tell us!
