The struggle is real! Hillary Clinton went through intense training to deal with Donald Trump’s weird, macho hugs during the presidential debates, and the results were hilarious. Watch her practice for the big day here!
Political consultant Phillippe Reines had the huge (sorry; YUGE) task of filling in for now-president Donald Trump, 70, while Hillary Clinton, 69, prepped for her presidential debates. It’s standard procedure for candidates to hold practice for the big nights; they have to be prepared for anything! While filling in for the other candidates, the stand-in has to mock all of their mannerisms and pester the candidate with combative questions so they know how to hold their ground. Phillippe took things a step further and taught Clinton how to curve when Trump comes after her with one of his weird, kind of violent hugs.
And curve she did. In a hilarious FBF video posted on May 19, Phillippe showed us a behind the scenes look at that epic debate prep on September 24, 2016. The announcer welcomes Clinton and “Trump” to the stage, and they wave and smile to the audience. When “Trump” comes lumbering in like Frankenstein with his arms wide open for a hug. Clinton’s a total pro at this by now, and gives him a high five instead! Phillippe races after her and basically tackles her into a bear hug from behind. Nobody in the room, including Clinton, can contain their laughter. It’s so good.
“I burst out laughing when I saw this video this morning. Hope it brightens your day,” Clinton tweeted, reposting Phillippe’s tweet. While he was joking with the bear hug thing, anyone who watched even a single presidential debate knows that it was totally warranted. Remember Trump awkwardly lurking behind her during an October 2016 event? As she spoke to the audience at the town hall, Trump lumbered around the stage, absentmindedly pacing, fiddling with things on his podium, and standing way too close for comfort to Hillary. So weird! She didn’t even react to any of it, though. Training paid off!
Tell us, HollywoodLifers — do you think that Clinton’s training paid off?
