Out with the old, and in with the… remakes. The CW announced that they were officially bringing back ‘Dynasty’ in the fall, but will any of the OGs return? And when will it air? Here are all the details — and your first look.
The 1980s soap opera that created the cat fight is back. The O.C. and Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are bringing back Dynasty, set to premiere this Fall on Wednesday nights on The CW. Here’s the cast lineup: Elizabeth Gillies will play Fallon Carrington; Grant Show will play her father Blake Carrington; James Mackay will play her brother, Steven; and Nathalie Kelley will play their soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal. Alan Dale also stars as as Andres, Blake’s butler.
Of course, the original show was based around the feud between characters played by Joan Collins and Linda Evans, who also reportedly didn’t get along in real life either. “I think that Dynasty is not unlike what we had with Riverdale last year in that we have a built-in audience of people who knew the Archie characters and our job was to bring them in as well as a new audience,” CW marketing president Rick Haskins said on a conference call Thursday. “We focused in on bringing in the new audience because we knew the old audience would follow.”
When asked about bringing back any members of the original series to guest-star, the network said that talks haven’t began, but “if storylines work and people’s schedules work we are completely open to it.” So, that means its possible we’ll see Joan again. The first trailer aired at the CW upfront, as well as a scene from the pilot:
