Donald Trump is the first president in 35 years to refuse an invitation to the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Instead, the 45th president of the United States will be holding his own rally in Harrisburg, PA. If you’re curious, you can watch the live stream here on April 29.
Donald Trump, 70, is doing something unprecedented for a president on April 29 — holding his own rally in place of going to the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The major event will happen at the PA Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, PA. Doors open at 4:30 pm EST and the rally will begin at 7:30 pm EST. If you don’t have tickets, you can watch right here!
Americans were stunned to hear that for the first time in 35 years, the president and guest of honor would not be present at the White House Correspondence Dinner. The event has become a way to relieve tension between with president and the press by having a nice dinner, a few drinks, and roasting each other. It’s all in good fun, but Trump is notoriously thin-skinned, and would prefer to be surrounded by supporters than the press that he hates so much.
“Next Saturday night I will be holding a BIG rally in Pennsylvania. Look forward to it!” he tweeted on April 22, one week before the event. The White House also revealed that none of its staff would be in attendance either as a show of “solidarity” for the president. Major bummer.
