Smells like teen spirit? No, in ‘Riverdale,’ Homecoming night smells more like deception.
Remember that face Betty was making in the promo (above) that looked like she was jealous of Archie and Ronnie? Well it turns out she was actually just really mad. Not only did they go behind her back, but they were working with her mom — and no, she still didn’t know about their hook up. Let me break it down.
Before Homecoming, Alice Cooper told Veronica and Betty she really believed FP was a suspect in Jason’s murder — if Hiram found out Clifford Blossom sent him to jail, maybe he hired FP to kill Jason. Betty refused to participate since she trusted Jughead. Plus, for the first time, he was starting to trust his dad again and really believing that he had changed.
Veronica however, did not. She enlisted Archie to break into FP’s trailer while Alice distracted them by inviting them to dinner. They searched it up and down, but found nothing. Before heading into the dance, Jug actually told his dad he wanted to come home, and FP told him he actually wanted them both to move to Mexico, and be a family again.
Right away, Jughead told Betty they had to discuss something important later on — not that they would get that far. Once Betty saw Archie and Ronnie talking to her mother, she realized what they had done. So that was the reason she was making that face.
Archie and Ronnie did perform, effortlessly, together at the dance, since his mom was in town and dying to see that. Side note: she was there with FP and Hermione. Talk about a squad. Anyways, while the performance was happening, someone had called the police to search FP’s trailer.
Secrets don’t remain secrets for long in Riverdale. Naturally, once Jughead found out his friends were all lying, he admitted to a sobbing Betty that he almost passed up on moving to Mexico with his family to stay with her. Before she even had time to process it or apologize, the Sheriff showed up to reveal FP had been arrested for Jason’s murder.
Mrs. Cooper claimed she didn’t call the police and before going out to search for a broken Jughead, Betty told her mom she loved him, and that he was her real family. The cliffhanger? Archie and Veronica found out that the gun that killed Jason was found in FP’s closet. But they had searched that closet, and it wasn’t there — so FP had been set up. But who had would have known about the small window they could go? It seems Mrs. Cooper would have been the only one. Or Mr. Cooper, who also stopped by dinner…
