The aftermath of Zeke being outed as transgender at Tribal Council played out on the April 19 episode of ‘Survivor,’ and his teammates could not have been more supportive. But Zeke is ready to move on — he just wants to play the game.
Emotions ran high on Survivor during last week’s tribal council, where Jeff Varner outed Zeke Smith as transgender in hopes of advancing himself in the game. This week, we saw the deeply emotional aftermath, as the Nuku tribe rallied around Zeke following the revelation back at camp.
Rather than show the moments immediately following Tribal, the scene cut to the next morning. For the most part, it seemed like the tribe didn’t exactly know the right words to say to Zeke, but he was very grateful for the support. “I really like the people I’m playing with,” he says to the camera. “It is heartening in this game that your lowest moments, when something bad does happen to you, people who are out to get you — in some regard — come to your defense. And I was touched.”
Don’t expect Zeke to sit back and let this get in the way of his game, though. In fact, he’s really just ready to move on from it, completely. “There’s still a task at hand,” he adds, with a grin. “I’m here to win a million dollars. I’m here to win Survivor. So let’s just get back to it.”
However, when the two tribes merged into one, Zeke knew he had to let the other seven castaways in on what went down. When they asked about what happened during the Varner and Sandra votes, Zeke immediately took the reigns on the former, flat-out telling the story and putting it all out there. Everyone reacted positively, and again, things moved on quickly. With 13 HUGE game changers still left, there is no time to waste, but it’s good to know Zeke has the support of the other contestants.
HollywoodLifers, how did you think the other contestants handled Zeke being outed?
