The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductions night of incredible music, memories and good old rock ‘n roll — plus a little hip-hop and rap to pay tribute to the late Tupac Shakur, who was inducted. Alicia Keys, T.I, Snoop Dogg and more blew everyone away with a medley of the rapper’s hits!
The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony took place on the evening of April 7 in Brooklyn, NY. This year’s induction class included rock legends such as Journey, Pearl Jam and YES, plus rap icon Tupac Shakur. Pop and hip-hop stars Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, YG and T.I paid homage to the late rapper by performing a medley of his hits and the crowd obviously went wild!
Snoop Dogg did the honor of inducting Tupac into the Hall of Fame with a speech chronicling their relationship, including the story of Tupac passing Snoop his first blunt. Obviously an iconic moment. In his speech, Snoop said, “While many of you remember him now as some kind of thugged-out superhero, Tupac knew he was only human. It’s a fact that he never shied away from—he wore it like a badge of honor.” Snoop continued, “Pac embraced those contradictions that proved that we aren’t just a character in someone else’s comic book. To be human is to be many things.” It was such a special moment and sweet words for his dear friend.
The tribute performance immediately followed the touching speech, with Alicia, fresh-faced and fabulous, taking the stage on her piano. Joined by YG, T.I & Snoop, they performed Tupac’s greatest hits including “I Get Around,” “Dear Mama,” “Changes,” “Gangsta Shit,” “Hail Mary,” “Keep Ya Head Up,” and more.
During the performance, Alicia took a moment to speak to the audience about Tupac and his inspiring body of work. “One of my favorite things about Pac, you know every lyric that he ever sang, it came exactly from his life, exactly from his heart,” she said to the huge crowd at Barclay’s Center. “He was so raw and so real and so honest. And even though I never met him—I wish I did—I learned so much from him. All those stories, and all that realness. All that honesty. I took that with me.”
