You guys, 2017 is going to be one heck of a year for good movies. At CinemaCon 2017, we got a look at films like ‘Atomic Blonde’, ‘Baby Driver’, ‘American Assassin’, and so many more which have us SUPER excited to hit the theaters!
HollywoodLife.com was fortunate enough to be on-hand for CinemaCon 2017 held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, where all of the biggest movie studios premiered never-before-seen footage and trailers from their upcoming slates. Here we have hand picked a few of our favorites which are absolute MUST sees once they hit theaters. Enjoy!
Atomic Blonde: Charlize Theron‘s upcoming action flick looked like a dream come true at CinemaCon on Wednesday, March 28. If Mission Impossible and Kill Bill had a baby, it would be Atomic Blonde. In the film, Charlize plays the baddest undercover spy who everyone seems to want dead. As she desperately tries to complete a mission in Berlin, Germany, she overcomes insane obstacles — including a very sexy Sofia Boutella. In the footage shown at CinemaCon, we watched Charlize fight almost to her death in an epic 10-minute scene that was shot with one single camera. That means the entire fight scene was shot without interruption from start to finish. Incredible! Atomic Blonde is in theaters July 28.
American Assassin: If you’ve been rooting for Dylan O’Brien to breakout as a lead actor, then American Assassin will make you very, very happy. In the intense action film, Dylan plays Mitch, a young black ops recruit who is determined to kill the terrorists that murdered his girlfriend in cold blood. However, he meets his match in his CIA trainer, portrayed by the legendary Michael Keaton. The trailer alone displays an entirely new side of Dylan as both an actor and a heartthrob, and proves that we will be seeing plenty of him on the big screen once Teen Wolf comes to an end. American Assassin will be in theaters on September 15.
Baby Driver: You’ve already seen the trailer for this one, but at CinemaCon director Edgar Wright unveiled a full scene from the Ansel Elgort film that had us begging for more. Ansel plays the world’s best getaway driver, and the never-before-seen footage explained why. In the scene, we watch as Ansel’s character, Baby, gets his bank robber friends (including Jon Bernthal and Jon Hamm) one epic escape from the police after they finish a heist. The best part of the movie? Not only does it amplify Ansel’s career to the next level, but his character is very much driven by the music he listens to. Honestly, the soundtrack is as much a character in the film as the actors are. Baby Driver his theaters on June 28.
Molly’s Game: You think you know the story of Molly Bloom, but the biopic starring the one and only Jessica Chastain will reveal that there is much more to her than meets the eye. Oscar nominee Jessica plays Molly, the woman who ran seriously high-stake poker games all over the world for many years before being caught. In the first trailer shown at CinemaCon, we learn that Molly isn’t just a money hungry vixen with a secret: she’s a human being trying to make a living. Molly’s Game doesn’t have a release date yet.
Downsizing: Now I have to admit, this one was a bit weird… but I was into it. Downsizing is sci-fi dramedy starring Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig, in which a married couple join a community of people who have shrunk themselves to live a more luxurious lifestyle. Matt was on-hand at CinemaCon to debut the first footage and trailer for the bizarre but interesting film, which showed his character undergoing the seemingly painless shrinking process. While the footage didn’t reveal much of where the story was headed, it will definitely be cool to see what happens to Matt and Kristen after they shrink into tiny little people — especially if it backfires. Downsizing will be released just in time for Christmas on December 22.
The Greatest Showman: Another incredibly exciting film that debuted it’s first look at CinemaCon was Hugh Jackman‘s The Greatest Showman. The movie tells the story of P.T. Barnum and the creation of show business, and the footage that premiered in Vegas was exhilarating to watch. The film is technically a musical, so we’ll see Hugh singing and dancing alongside his younger co-stars, Zac Efron and Zendaya. This is another Christmas movie, with a December 25 release date.
Red Sparrow: Jennifer Lawrence is taking on action once again in this spy thriller, based on the novel by Jason Matthews. Red Sparrow tells the story of a woman forced into becoming a Russian spy and using her body as a weapon. Despite her resistance she becomes one of the best spies to come out of training, but her first assignment leads her into a tangled web of love and deception that could ruin everything she’s worked for. Needless to say, Jennifer kicked major butt in the first trailer for the movie, and we can’t wait to see her in the action. Red Sparrow will be in theaters November 10.
