Equal Pay Day is today, April 4, and Kerry Washington and Hillary Clinton are among those who’ve taken to social media to spread a message that unfortunately still hasn’t been heard loud and clear: we need to end the pay gap.
Equal Pay Day occurs every April to symbolize “how far into the year women need to work to make what men did in the previous year,” according to the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE). It’s also always on Tuesday, to “represent how far into the next work week women must work to earn what men earned the previous week.” Like you, many stars are standing up today to fight the wage discrepancies that continue to exist between men and women!
“#20PercentCounts And did u know that Black women are actually paid 37% less & Latina women are paid 46% less than white men?! #EqualPayDay,” Kerry Washington tweeted. “Proud to stand alongside my sisters in the fight for equal pay. Every day should be #equalpayday,” Emmy Rossum echoed. Check out more tweets and Instagram posts below:

Unfortunately, on March 27, President Donald Trump pulled back Obama-era protections for women in the workplace. Trump revoked the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces order, basically undoing hard-fought victories for women workers. It’s safe to say that we need Equal Pay Day more than ever!
HollywoodLifers, do you think it’s a shame that we still need to have a day like this?
