For one horrifying moment, Bob Harper was no longer alive. While discussing the massive heart attack that nearly ended his life, the ‘Biggest Loser’ star confessed that had it not been for some luck and the quick thinking from his coach, Bob wouldn’t have survived!
“I had what they called a ‘widow maker,'” Bob Harper, 51, revealed when he sat down with Savannah Guthrie on the April 4 episode of the TODAY show. The Biggest Loser trainer revealed the horrifying details of the heart attack he suffered while working out, admitting that he would later find out that he had a 6% chance of surviving. For a moment there, it didn’t look like Bob was going to beat the odds.
“I was in full cardiac arrest. My heart stopped. Not to be dramatic, but I was dead. I was on that ground – dead,” Bob said. That’s blood-chilling. Thankfully for Bob, his training coach, who was working out with him, found two doctors at gym where he was working out. The two medical professionals applied a defibrillator and performed CPR before the paramedics could arrive.
“I was so lucky [the doctors were there.] Thank God,” Bob said. As for what it felt like to come so close to death, Bob wishes he could explain more. However, he can’t really remember anything about that day. “It was super scary for me because I woke up [from a coma] and I was so confused. I was like Dory from Finding Nemo because I had this short-term memory, so I was reliving the heart attack over and over again.”

Bob also admitted that while the heart attack has taken a physical toll, the whole scary episode has affected the trainer emotionally. After all, Bob is known around the world as a fitness icon and to have a heart attack at 51 really rattled him. “I’m going through some depression,” he said, before assuring that he’s “not sweating the small stuff anymore and I’m not sweating the big things anymore.”
“I’m going to appreciate every single day that I’m here,” Bob said. He can also know that his fans appreciate him too. When Bob posted an updated on Feb. 27, posing with his dog to reassure everyone that he was “on the mend,” the outpouring of love for the Biggest Loser star was off the charts. It’s great to see that Bob is making a full recovery. How amazing is that he was able to defy the odds and survive!
