Move over Alec Baldwin, there’s a new late night Trump in town. Comedy Central just picked up ‘The President Show,’ a weekly series featuring Anthony Atamanuik as Donald J. Trump.
The President Show has arrived. In today’s world, every late night series does at least one bit mocking President Donald Trump, so why not make an entire show about it? That’s what Comedy Central is doing.
“When I was first approached about this show I thought it would be about me, but on further thought, this makes way more sense,” Kent Alterman, President of Comedy Central said in a press release. Creator Anthony Atamanuik, who portrays Donald Trump in the show, also added he was worried he’d disappoint. Peter Crosz will be in the show too, portraying Vice President Mike Pence.
“Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department. But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy,” he said. “Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”
The show is based on Anthony’s version of Trump who is “bypassing the crooked media by hosting a late-night show direct from the Oval Office.” Naturally, the release also adds “Trump” will not be taking any “unfair questions from reporters” any “awkward photo ops with German ladies, but will just have “a fun show where he can put his unique Trumpian spin on such late-night staples as desk segments, field pieces and guest interviews.”
You may recognize Anthony since he’s portraying Trump during the Trump vs. Bernie tour, and in many sketch specials. He also co-hosted Chris Hardwick‘s @Midnight during Trump takeover. The show premieres on Comedy Central on Thursday, April 27 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT; it will also be available to stream the following day on the app and on cc.com/thepresidentshow.
