Alex and Maggie are in a great place on ‘Supergirl,’ but are they going to stay that way? HollywoodLife.com talked to Chyler Leigh EXCLUSIVELY about Alex and Maggie’s romance, as well as Chyler’s other fan favorite character Lexie Grey!
Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) have yet to hit a really big roadblock in their relationship, and it’s been so refreshing to see such a happy and healthy relationship on TV. Since TV is all about twists and turns, should Alex and Maggie be bracing for trouble ahead? HollywoodLife.com asked Chyler, 34, about the obstacles Sanvers might be facing in the episodes to come.
“I think that’s one thing that we’ve really been able to pride ourselves on is the fact that we’ve taken a relationship that so many people see as abnormal or held in its own kind of crazy category, but everybody has ups and downs in their relationships. It’s no different if you’re a guy with a guy or a guy with a girl or a girl with a girl. It doesn’t matter. The point is, we’re just trying to tell a really great story about two people who are falling in love with each other and just deal with weird, crazy stuff and are incredibly passionate and heartfelt people,” she told HollywoodLife.com. “They’re both very like-minded, and when you have two people who are so like-minded you have those moments where things can come to a head very easily. But the main thing is, yes, there are going to be bumps and there are going to be issues. They’re are going to be fights and things like that, but because they’re so passionate about each other and care so much about each other, it’s always going to be worth it to get through it. My thought is that in their profession, if you will, you can die any time you walk out the door. It’s that mentality of life’s too short. It’s like you have to appreciate what you have and I say that all the time, just me personally as Chyler. Life’s too short, so you’ve got to enjoy where you’re at right now. You’ve got to enjoy the ride as best you can and then keep moving forward, keep dreaming, and keep going. It’s kind of the same thing with both of them. They balance each other out really well.”
The March 27 episode of Supergirl, titled “Distant Sun,” will feature Alex and Maggie running into Maggie’s ex-girlfriend, Emily, who’s in town. Alex and Maggie have built a strong foundation to their relationship, so they’re definitely going to be able to weather this little storm.
Alex Danvers isn’t the only fantastic character that Chyler has helped bring to life. This May will mark 10 years since Chyler made her debut as Lexie Grey on Grey’s Anatomy. Lexie, Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) younger sister, was tragically killed off in season 8, but she remains one of the most beloved characters on the show. HollywoodLife.com asked Chyler about her fondest memories on Grey’s.
“I have many, many great memories,” she told HollywoodLife.com. “One of the ones I always think about is the episode with Seth Green when he came in and his carotid artery blew open. That was a lot of fun.”
Chyler’s character was also heavily involved with Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), a.k.a. McSteamy. Lexie and Mark quickly became a fan favorite couple on the show. Chyler added during our interview. “I mean I always loved the Lexie/Mark relationship and dynamic. At first I was like, ‘Wait what? That’s a pretty big gap.’ But then I got it. I understood what he brought to her and what she brought to him. There’s a lot I really appreciated about my time there.”
