Mon, March 20, 2017 7:22pm EDT by Add first Comment

David Ross is making his dancing debut on the season 24 premiere of ‘DWTS,’ making him the first-ever baseball player to compete on the show. Here are 5 key things you need to know about the legendary MLB player!

1. He’s won TWO World Series!
David Ross, 40, had a long and successful career as a catcher in Major League Baseball. His 14-year career started at the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002. David won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2013 and the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He became the oldest player — at 39 — to hit a home run in Game 7 of the World Series in 2016. He retired after the 2016 season.

2. Even though he’s retired, he’s still very much involved in the baseball world.
In Jan. 2017, a few months following his retirement, the Chicago Cubs named David , who is nicknamed “Grandpa Rossy,” as a special assistant to baseball operations for the 2017 season. He just can’t leave those Cubbies behind!

3. He married his high school sweetheart!
David is married to Hyla Ross, whom he met in high school. The couple has three children together — Landri, Cole, and Harper. Despite his incredible baseball career, his family always comes first for him. “Being a dad is important to me. We have priorities in life, and the older I get, it’s time for my family to be top priority… I love this game, but I love my family way more,” he told MLB.com.

4. You’ve seen him on SNL before.
David made a special appearance on Saturday Night Live with Cubs fan and SNL alum Bill Murray, 66, to celebrate the Cubs’ World Series win in Nov. 2016. David and Bill performed a rendition of the Chicago Cubs theme song, “Go Gubs Go,” with fellow Cubs players Anthony Rizzo, 27, and Dexter Fowler, 30.

5. He’s got a book coming out!
David’s memoir, Teammate: My Journey in Baseball and a World Series for the Ages, will be released on May 9, 2017. The book will include a chapter on Game 7 of the World Series, the incredible finish to his career. Interviews with former teammates like Jon Lester, 33, former coaches, and his wife will be featured in the memoir.

On Dancing With the Stars, David is paired with pro Lindsay Arnold. Lindsay will be writing a weekly blog for HollywoodLife.com this season, so stay tuned for all the latest on David and Lindsay’s journey! DWTS season 24 premieres March 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
