It took a FBI investigation to finally do it, but authorities have located Tom Brady’s lost Super Bowl 51 jersey! After it was reportedly discovered in Mexico, football fans had a blast guessing who’d be so fiendish to actually steal the New England Patriots star’s uniform.
Yes, Mexico. The jersey that Tom Brady, 39, wore during his historic Super Bowl 51 performance mysteriously disappeared after the Feb. 5 game. It seems that someone swiped it and allegedly made a run for the border. After an extensive search, the NFL announced on March 20 that the authorities – including the FBI — have recovered Tom’s uniform.
“The [jersey was] found in the possession of a credentialed member of the international media,” the NFL said in a statement “Due to the ongoing investigation, we would refer any additional questions to the FBI.” Though the NFL didn’t say which international journalist was behind the heist, Art Acevedo, the Houston chief of police, confirmed that the jersey was found in Mexico, according to CBS Sports.
Someone’s in trouble! After the announcement, the Mexican media accused Mauricio Ortega of being the alleged thief, per Heavy.com. A tweet, in Spanish, from JoseSports UK said that the “’ex director’ of La Prensa” was the one who allegedly pocketed Tom’s uniform. Mauricio was reportedly dismissed from his role at La Prensa just days before the NFL announced the jersey’s recovery, leading more to think he really did it!
Before Mauricio’s name hit social media, NFL fans made some funny guesses as to who might have stolen Tom’s jersey (which has been reportedly valued to be worth $500,000.) Some wondered if NFL Commissioner (and Brady foe) Roger Goodell, 58, took the jersey to spite Tom. Others wondered why the FBI isn’t helping them locate their missing pieces of clothing. Others suggested that Russian president Vladimir Putin, 64, might have added it to his collection, while others used it to mock Rachel Maddow, 43, and her less-than-stellar expose on Donald Trump’s taxes.

So the FBI recovered Tom Brady's jersey. Maybe they can figure out who stole one sock from nearly every single pair of my dress socks.

If this story wasn’t strange enough, the FBI reportedly found that Tom’s other stolen Super Bowl jersey (the one from Super Bowl XLIX, when the Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks) was also found during the search for his Super Bowl LI jersey. It seems that is sports memorabilia suspect had some sticky fingers for years. On top of Tom’s two jerseys, the cleats and helmet used by Von Miller, 27, in Super Bowl 50 were also discovered! What?! Thankfully, Tom will soon have his historic memorabilia, as they will be returned to him “some time [later] this week.”
Are you glad that Tom’s jersey was finally found, HollywoodLifers?
