For a hot minute, Barcelona was on top of the world – or, on top of La Liga’s table. Yet, they fell on their face thanks to a 2-1 loss to Deportivo de La Coruna. Before they had a chance to recover, Real Madrid had regained the No. 1 position. Now, Barca is back chasing down Los Blancos. When they host Valencia at Camp Nou for this March 19 match, they better bring their A game or they’ll fall further behind. The match is set for 3:45 PM ET so tune in to see what happens.
After pulling off an epic display against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions league, Barca was expected to cruise by Deportivo. Instead, they wounded up stunned, thanks the goals from Joselu, 26, and Alex Bergantinos, 31, according to ESPN FC. Luis Suarez, 30, was the only Barca player to score, but the Blaugrana wasn’t operating at full strength. Neymar, 25, was sidelines with an adductor issue, while Rafinha, 24, was out due to gastroenteritis.
Neymar will be back, but the team will continue to be without Aleix Vidal, 27, who suffered an ankle injury during a game with Alaves. Jeremy Mathieu, 33, is also out. The more pressing issue is Lionel Messi, 29, and Gerard Pique, 30, are both just one yellow card away from a 1-game suspension. That’s the last thing Barcelona wants.
As for Valencia, they’ll be without Santi Mina, 21, and Nani, 33, for this game, as the former is dealing with a calf problem, according to ESPN FC. As for Nani, he’s been dealing with a thigh injury. That’s bad news for Los Murcielagos, but good news for Barcelona’s campaign to regain the top spot in the league.
