Maksim Chmerkovskiy isn’t buying that whole ‘advantage’ thing. While the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro is aware his partner Heather Morris, 30, has a dance background, he revealed to HollywoodLife.com that they actually have ‘a lot of room to improve.’
“It’s obvious that dancing’s a little easier for her. I also believe that this cast, especially on the women’s side, is going to have an easier time than ever before in terms of how many people have had experience,” Maks Chmerkovskiy told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY on March 16 during Swiffer’s 18th birthday party in NYC. “I think we’re gonna need to prove ourselves.”
Obviously the 37-year-old pro is aware of the backlash he’s received since it was announced that Heather Morris was joining the cast with such an extensive dance background. Now a mother of two boys — Elijah, 3, and Owen, 1 — Heather grew up dancing, toured with Beyonce as a backup dancer and later was hired to choreograph on Glee before landed the role of Brittany S. Pierce. However, that doesn’t mean things have been easy for the pair.
“We definitely have a lot of room to improve, without a doubt,” he told HollywoodLife. “I’m not being cute about this. It’s hard for her. We keep banging knees! I thought I broke my knee. I swear to God, I thought I broke her knee, and then when she looked at me, she was like ‘Are you ok?’ I’m like ‘How are you standing?’ I’m crying, my soul was hurting. We have our share of issues.”
Although the new father is aware that the duo do have a bit of an upper hand, he knows he still needs to keep working hard. “I do care what people say, but I can’t really control what they say. Heather’s excited for the opportunity, and I’m going to be fueling that excitement. I’m not going to be looking at her like ‘you have an advantage. It’s not fair.'”
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Maks and Heather on DWTS? Do you think they have an advantage?
