Nick Viall proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi on ‘The Bachelor’ finale, but the hunk reveals in an all-new interview that he tried to hide his true feelings for his fiancee during the show. However, he admits he felt ‘free’ once he was able to be open about his love for Vanessa.
“I was fighting my feelings for Vanessa [Grimaldi] for such a long time because there were other women involved,” Nick Viall, 36, told PEOPLE. “However, once I was able and free to make my choice, I felt like my heart knew for a while.”
The other Bachelor finalist, Raven Gates, 25, told Nick that she loved him on the finale, but he just couldn’t say it back. He just didn’t feel the same about her. “As much as I cared about Raven, I felt like the answer became more and more clear that I was Vanessa,” he continued.
The finale wasn’t exactly the smoothest ride for Nick. Leading up to his proposal, Nick was troubled over the possibility that he might end up alone. After all, he was rejected by both Andi Dorfman, 29, and Kaitlyn Bristowe, 31, on Bachelorette finales in the past.
“Once I saw Vanessa, I kind of calmed my nerves,” he noted. “For me it was that moment where I had clarity. It was a calming feeling of knowing I made the right decision. It was all worth it! All the tears and all the ups and downs, it kind of just felt like, finally I got to the place that I hoped to get to.”
After two seasons on The Bachelorette and one on Bachelor In Paradise, Nick has finally found the love he’s been looking for all this time. Now that they’re out in the open with their relationship, Vanessa, 29, and Nick have never looked happier.
