‘America’s Got Talent’ is inching closer to finding its new host. After Nick Cannon abruptly quit, the NBC show has reportedly narrowed their hunt for a replacement down to three comedians — but which one will be the new host?
Simon Cowell has been searching for a replacement for Nick Cannon ever since he quit America’s Got Talent on February 13, and he’s reportedly deciding between three men, TMZ is reporting: Marlon Wayans, Tone Bell, and Brandon Mychal Smith.
While Marlon is the most popular, all three men have the experience that Simon and NBC are looking for. Tone, 33, is most known for his roles on Truth Be Told, Key and Peele and The Flash, while also doing stand up. Brandon, 27, is actually from the Disney Channel; he’s starred in That’s So Raven and Starstruck, and played Little Richard in the James Brown biopic, Get On Up. However, Marlon did host NBC’s I Can Do That, which may give him a leg up.
Nick surprised NBC when revealing in a lengthy Facebook post that he was leaving the show after they had threatened to fire him for making remarks about the network and the show during a stand up bit. When he threw in the towel, everyone involved were “thrown for a loop,” a show insider had told us. He was reportedly extremely upset with how NBC had threatened to ax him from the show, after they’ve put up with worse in the past.
“All options are being weighed on right now from total replacement to even talking Nick out of it and nurture the relationship and have him do the show,” a source told us when Nick had originally quit. “It’s a bit of a headache for all involved and it is a major priority to fix and is being dealt with right at this minute.”
