Viewers watching the Oscars on Feb. 26 got an exciting glimpse at Will Smith’s Netflix movie ‘Bright.’ Will plays a cop who has to go to great lengths to save the world from doom. Sounds kind of ‘Men in Black’-esque, right?
Will Smith’s newest fantasy thriller is going to be epic. A 30-second trailer for Bright premiered during the Oscars, and Will’s teaming up with Joel Edgerton to take down bad guys and protect a magical wand. Will plays an LAPD cop in a world where supernatural creatures live side-by-side with humans.
The trailer doesn’t give away much. We see Will’s character patrolling the streets of Los Angeles as “This Land Is Your Land” plays in the background. The end of the teaser ends with Will’s character saying, “I’m assuming this doesn’t end well.”
The synopsis for the show reads: “Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Will Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.”
Bright was directed by David Ayer, who also directed Will in Suicide Squad. With Will and David working together again, you know this movie’s going to be sick. The movie made headlines in 2016 when Netflix reportedly paid an unprecedented $90 million dollars for the project. The movie also stars Noomi Rapace, Ike Barinholtz, Edgar Ramirez, and Andrea Navedo. Bright is set to be released on Netflix in December. The movie is Will’s first Netflix film.
