Hours before their massive blunder at the Oscars on Feb. 27, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were already having some problems working together, according to a new report. The two reportedly had a disastrous rehearsal — and it may have been an indicator of what was to come!
New details from Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty’s Oscars rehearsal are giving us a little more insight into why things went so terribly wrong when they announced the winner for Best Picture at the show. As we’ve all seen by now, Warren hesitated after opening the envelope, and eventually, it was Faye who revealed La La Land as the winner — only for the producers to have to turn the honor over to Moonlight after giving multiple acceptance speeches.
Faye and Warren reportedly didn’t block their appearance together at rehearsals, and had trouble agreeing on who would be the one to read the winning movie, according to TMZ. The site reports that Faye “demanded” she be the one to do it, with Warren eventually giving in after a “contentious” rehearsal.
Of course, there was nothing Faye and Warren could really do in advance to prepare for the fact that they were given the wrong card onstage. However, it’s clear in the footage from the show that Warren realized something was wrong and was hesitant to read what was on the paper in front of them, which was actually the envelope for Best Actress. Meanwhile, Faye quickly took over, making sure she was the one to read the ‘winner.’
Despite this reported fight the pair had during rehearsals, they looked to be getting along just fine during an Oscars after-party. In fact, Warren was overheard reassuring Faye that “it wasn’t us” when she asked if they were “in the sink.” Let’s be real — this will probably haunt the actors for a few days, but pretty soon, it’ll all blow over!
HollywoodLifers, do you think the troublesome rehearsals foreshadowed what was to come?!
