Okay. It’s over. Jackie Chan wins the Oscar for having the ‘Cutest Date’ at the Academy Awards. The legendary martial arts actor appeared at the Academy Awards on Feb. 26, but the ‘Rush Hour’ actor wasn’t alone, as he had an adorable stuffed panda in each of his arms!
“Where I go, they go,” Jackie Chan, 62, told Ryan Seacrest, 42, while on the red carpet of the Academy Awards, according to PEOPLE. While calling them his “two baby boys,” the Kung Fu Panda star explained that he’s a panda ambassador for China and he had the two adorable animals to raise awareness of his role as a Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF.

Jackie couldn’t take credit for coming up with the idea, as he said the idea to bring the pandas (whose names are Chan La and Chan Zy) to the 2017 Oscars was something his assistant, Victoria, thought up. “Since she started working with me, she’s had the opportunity to travel all over the world,” he wrote on his website, per Refinery29. “So to make the journey more fun, she told me that she wanted to buy a small stuffed animal and take pictures with it all over the world.”
“So first, I picked out two pandas. Victoria reminded me that we would have to bring two pandas all over the world with us – but that was okay with me because I don’t want the pandas to be lonely! I looked at many different bears but in the end, I chose the pandas because they speak to me. I feel a connection with them,” he said.
Jackie was at the 89th Academy Awards because he was among those who received an Honorary Oscar during the Governor Awards. Jackie picked up his Lifetime Achieved Oscar, during the Nov. 2016 ceremony, becoming the first Chinese actor to win the award. “After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many bones, — finally!” he said, according to the Huffington Post. He certainly has earned it.
What do you think about Jackie bringing pandas to the Oscars, HollywoodLifers? Which one of his movies is your favorite? Are you glad he was given the Lifetime Achievement award for his half-century in movies?
