April the giraffe has had a looong day of labor at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpusville, NY on Feb. 22, but luckily the soon-to-be new mommy has had tons of support from around the world to help her through it! See the sweet messages for yourself, right here.
Some days you are super productive, get tons of work done, and end the day feeling like you really accomplished something. Other days, a giraffe is giving birth on a live stream, and you literally can’t focus on anything else. Feb. 22 was the second kind of day.
Animal lovers around the world came together to watch April the giraffe at the Animal Adventure Center in Harpusville, New York, prepare to give birth to her calf, and it was definitely a bonding experience. One fan even suggested that the adorable bundle of joy should be named “Atlas,” since so many people from so many different places were tuning in for the magical moment!
Other viewers just couldn’t believe the sheer amount of time that they spent watching April, despite the fact that hours after the live stream went up, there was still no evidence that she was any closer to having the baby. That means that for the whole day, we collectively watched a giraffe stand in a pen doing nothing. It was captivating.

April is expected to give birth at “any moment,” and has actually already had 3 or 4 babies in the past. She’s 15 years old, which is a little past halfway into her life. Having a baby is odd as a giraffe. They become mature enough to get pregnant at 5 years old, and they carry the baby for 16 months. Hey, at least we learned something, even if the baby isn’t born today.
